  • Surface RT is "on track to join Zune and the Kin in the great consumer electronics discount rack in the sky," writes MKM's Israel Hernandez, as he cuts his FQ3 estimates for Microsoft (MSFT). He adds there's "mounting evidence that Windows 8 is failing to resuscitate flagging PC demand," and believes PC shipments will likely see 10%+ declines at least through 1H13. Also: the head of Samsung's memory chip ops recently declared Windows 8 to be no better than Vista. [View news story]
Its the fastest Windows OS there ever was Window-C and Window-Q keys solved my issue which was the Start-Search bar which was now not visible.
Its amazing, the speed alone made me upgrade every single Laptop in our household. For desktops it is not a must have, but its good.

  • Currency Positioning And Technical Outlook: Dollar Frustrates QE Bears [View article]
You are forgetting something. That is called reality. The reason the dollar gains is because the fed is expected to end QE.
But with dropping real incomes throughout the world, and the USA, as soon as QE is stopped the markets will tank.
The fed will respond with more QE to prevent a third recession, and the dollar will pop back down.

  • ARM Proven Wrong, Intel Vindicated [View article]
"The world's most popular OS, Google's (GOOG) Android, is fairly instruction set agnostic,"
I think you meant the APPS are fairly native code independent. Subtle but substantial difference.

    ALL OS's are ISA independent.

    " fairly instruction set agnostic"
Ashraf, you are from computer science right? All modern Unix or derivative OS's including Windows NT are ISA independent. The only dependency is for security purpose (DEP etc).
If you mean the Java derived APP layer then Java is also available on every major OS, bar maybe Windows Phone.

  • Why Nvidia's Titan Keeps Selling Out [View article]
If you cannot afford one you can do direct computer and C++AMP on amd hardware now.
btw the pcper results are well, strange, because frankly I do not underestand how the "perceived frames in each interval" by fraps vs his crazy direct DVI capture is so different.
We all know Nvidia cards have better MIN frame rates but worst peak and average frame rates. The human eye can only perceive the min frame rates . No need to do such a crazy method to try to prove dual SLI is better than dual Crossfire even though it performs worst on AVG FPS.

  • Herbalife: Here's Why You Won't Hear Ackman's Defense This Time [View article]
McDonalds franchisees ONLY rely on retail. Comparison is invalid. While hlf distributors are told ("The real opportunity is in recruitment so that you don't have to do all the work").

As a former distributor I agree with Ackman's thesis. However, a short squeeze can happen.
The writer of this article fails to realise that HERBALIFE lies. Both to recruits and to investors. Sales are not retail sales, there is no record of retails sales vs distributor sales. ( I can show you a distributor recruitment DVD which never once properly mentions the business, rather tries to sell the fantastic opportunity)

  • AMD Makes A Few Smart Moves [View article]
Thanks for the write up though sounds a lot like our stock talks. Cudos to you for bothering to tie things up and summarize in one article.
Without knowing about the Crysis 3 deal I predicted the share gains will not be sustainable. Now I am all but certain they will reverse. The extent depends on lots of factors.

I took profits on a portion of my portfolio. Not worth the risk of a massive fall like in 2008. Even if there is no fall, it aint going that much higher.

  • Nvidia And AMD Deal With A Disturbing Trend [View article]
Who cares about titan. It does not add much revenue to anyone. It is a niche product. But regarding Compute Ashraf has a point. Nvidia's 670 and 680 are crippled for Cuda. I know as I develop on Cuda and OpenCL. I chose 7970 not because I am an AMD fan, but becuase I like to try GPGPU algos at home, and they run faster on AMD. Its not by architecture but by Nvidia crippling compute in the drivers so that I would buy a Quadro at 4x the price to get such work done.

  • Nvidia And AMD Deal With A Disturbing Trend [View article]
zlat you have an interesting point. Ashraf, on the pS4 expect graphics of 7970 quality simply due to the more optmised architecture. But Ashraf's point is valid from 2014 or before; many are on GF 470 and see no need to upgrade. If new games start requiring 670 as a base line this would change. Consoles will typically beat even the high end PC on release, not on raw power but effective power. But within 6months, Both AMD and Nvidia will find some optimisations that they will release in their next iteration. That is when PC's will regain the advantage. I for one will be buying a next gen console and then in 2 years may upgrade my PC graphics card. Nothing beats a console for multiplayer family fun. You can't connect four controller around a monitor to have fun..
