  • Is India About To Set The Silver Market On Fire? [View article]
the writer seems to be quite naive in his reasoning on Indians buying gold as a hedging tool. Inflation or No inflation, India buys gold for cultural / religious reasons and will continue to do so even in case of deflation. The writer knows that government is imposing restrictions on gold imports to control current account deficit but expects silver imports to be condoned by the government. Amazing!!!

  • 8 Things Holding Back National Oilwell Varco's Price Appreciation [View article]
I won't mind waiting for NOV to improve its margins and cashflows before I set a buying price. Plus I am closely looking at the oil price outlook because a sustained downward movement there could put additional pressure on the acquisitions NOV has made during the last few years.

  • Gold's $5,000 Inflation Hedge Based On Flawed Assumptions [View article]
Thanks for reading the article. Yes, inflation is a threat and so is hyperinflation for US but see the opposite side of the depreciating dollar. It will most probably be some other currency and gold is still at a bit of distance from being used as a medium of exchange. Also I don't disagree on even a hyperinflation scenario, but suddenly to 87% per annum in two-three years? I have trouble accepting a disastrous jump like this in a very short period of time and that's what the article is all about. And btw I am not bearish on gold because it broke some average last week, I have been bearish on gold since it was trading at $1850-1900 and the reward has been just too good.

  • 8 Things Holding Back National Oilwell Varco's Price Appreciation [View article]
Thank you very much for reading the article and all your comments especially from those who are bullish on NOV. I understand your predicament and that's why I outlined the items currently hampering the potential price appreciation. If NOV significantly improves on any of these (particularly endogenous ones), I would be more than happy to go long and see the stock reach $90.

  • Apple's Story: Only The Beginning? [View article]
Nice article. Could you kindly elaborate how come the cash management is positive if the portfolio earns only 1.03% p.a. despite the non-government securities (including mortgage backed securities) being more than 45% of the total portfolio?

  • Analyzing Apple From An Absolute And Relative Value Standpoint [View article]
Even for capital gains you need a better visibility on the product pipeline and at the moment unfortunately Apple's approach towards growth is not clear except for iPhone/iPad product upgrades. It could come up with some really innovative solutions but the market currently believes otherwise. And if Apple does not distribute the cash it currently holds, the company value is eroding fast and investors should not underestimate that for a technology company which is highly vulnerable to competition.

  • A Different Perspective On Apple's Valuation [View article]
what amazes me the most is the closed-mind approach many Apple enthusiasts take towards the earnings outlook. For some, the decline in Apple's earnings is next to impossible and it really scares me sometimes.

  • A Different Perspective On Apple's Valuation [View article]
Thank you very much for reading the article.

Basically the idea was the dissect the much discussed special dividend. I was interested in understanding the value-addition it would bring to the shareholders as despite 60% earnings growth in 2012, the share price is down by nearly 40%.

"The bigger concern is whether or not the company will be able to generate substantial improvements in cash flow." and still you anticipate an upside in the share price??
and what an incredible fair price range, $30-42, only 40% wide band... interesting!!

  • Apple's Crime And Punishment [View article]
Great article and an interesting take to this whole Apple debate. Before we decide upon the valuation merits, we need to estimate the realistic impact next "blockbuster" product would have on Apple's topline. Would it be as desirable and easy to switch as iPhone/iPad? Anything below that would only hurt Apple's credibility more on its product innovation capabilities.

  • A Look At The Global Steel Industry, U.S. Steel And Chinese Steelmakers [View article]
Nice article. China is estimated to have 831m tonne in capacity and an estimated utilization rate of 85% in 2012. With Chinese real estate investment growth slowing down and shipbuilding industry in disarray, its very difficult to develop a positive outlook on China's steel demand even with the positive infrastructure related developments you mentioned.

  • Apple Has Little Left To Lose [View article]
interestingly you have used projections till 2022 for a technology company when you have a recent example of BB price plummeting down below $10 from $140+ in just 3-4 years time due to competitors like Apple/Samsung... also a low dividend is a sure price dampener especially when cash is generating only 1-2% in returns, with a potential EPS downside in case the yields rise by 2022 as apple holds good chunk of its cash in government securities...
