  • ECB To Investors: Sell Gold [View article]
I have been bullish since gold hit its first new "all time high" breaking out over 1,000. As a trend follower, i am drawn to things that are acting well and moving from the lower left to the upper right. Of late, Gold has not been making new highs, in fact we have seen two lower highs. In the long term i suspect gold will be a good investment, but selling gold based on a lack of ECB money printing is a short term trade...

  • Waste Management: A Good Fit For Berkshire [View article]
Well, you must realize that the title of the article is not "Berkshire To Buy Waste Management." Rather, "Waste Management: A Good Fit For Berkshire" is not arguing that Berkshire will buy WM but instead that WM would be a nice fit for Berkshire. If there was already any indication that Berkshire would buy WM then the stock would have already moved and there would be little need to suggest that WM might be a good fit for Berkshire. I do not own WM because I am expecting a takeover. As stated in the article, I turned bullish WM a while ago and am looking to hold for the long-term.

  • Patriot Coal: What A Short Squeeze Looks Like [View article]
could not agree more. I think the move has something to do with a credit agreement in the works. That being said, I do not really see the point of buying PCX up here... If it were trading at $1 and they extended the credit agreement it would easily double. But now, at over $2, the stock has priced in some sort of a deal. I suspect on any deal PCX opens higher and then gets sold hard on the news.

  • Why Apple Should Announce A $100 Billion Stock Buyback [View article]
No company needs $120 billion in cash. The company should take advantage of the market weakness in its stock and seize the moment to make an opportune move to benefit shareholders.

  • AIG Increases Exposure To Eurozone Debt, Or Why Government Bailouts Need To Stop [View article]
you are correct, AIG has increased it's German exposure significantly. The only problem with Germany is that is like a first class passenger on the titanic. When the Euro collapses Germany will go down with everyone else. The sad thing here is that if AIG gets into trouble because of Europe, tax payers will again be forced to bail out AIG.

  • Research In Motion's Attractive Future [View article]
I have to disagree with you statement that " you don't have to worry about RIMM going to 0." Maybe not over night, but over time RIMM is probably going to 0. Why? Well you answered that by telling us that RIMM has no innovation to think of. The blackberry is a device that has seen its better days. Consumers will continue over time to dump the blackberry and switch to the I-phone. How is RIMM any different than Nokia (NOK) or Palm, or Motorola?? It is not, and RIMM is to be sold into any rallies. This is a value trap if i have ever seen it. RIMM is behind the curve. Rimm is a sale at any price.

  • VIX Futures Curve Means Trouble For VIX ETFs [View article]
Fundamentally, the trade is a good one and will, almost certainly, work over the long term. However, what you need to be aware of is the possibility that a short term spike in the VIX will make it painful for some time. Note the chart in the article which shows the 250% gain in TVIX during mid 2011.

  • Upgrading DryShips To Neutral From A Sell [View article]
I understand and tend to agree with your thoughts on Economou, but I don't know how critical we can really be of the guy considering the rest of the shipping companies have not done any better than DRYS. Actually, the decision to diversify into the oil drilling business was a major positive for DRYS and its shareholders.

  • TVIX: Sell The Rally [View article]
the contracts are not rolled, but your returns reflect the rolling of the futures contracts. Over the past year, the VIX is roughly flat & TVIX and its IV are down roughly 90%. This occurs because your returns are hurt by the contango in VIX futures.
