I believe we are in a recession, the latest GDP is artificial with the dollar and stimulus showing false hopes. Check this out for more: www.bullishbankers.com.../
5 Key Quotes from Google on the Internet Industry [View article]
Google is positioned very well for the future. Leave the search engine and ads alone, they are moving into different areas that can generate growth. In addition to the security aspect, they have project Android, Health Care and Transaction processing projects. Lets not forget the space project they have sponsored. The company seems to be growing into a conglomeration of innovation that will drive growth.
I agree with earlier comments regarding Yahoo! management possibly not thoroughly evaluating the offer. YHOO shareholders were provided a solid premium and I doubt the company will be able to do better in the coming year. Google has a solid grip on the business and is continuing to strengthen itself.
GlaxoSmithKline Makes Generics Deal to Penetrate Emerging Markets [View article]
A great move by GSK to enter the generic market. Once you can offer both patented products and generics, you can stand up to competition from the pure generic companies who are eating away at potential profits from your patented prescriptions.
MSFT and CTXS are solid competitors, but I believe this pressure will have management rethink strategy and fight back. If you compare the product offerings, VMWare provides excellent solutions and often times MSFTs products take a few versions to get the kinks out. Companies do not want to deal with this when investing in expensive tech, this is where the quality and experience VMW has will trump the competition.
Granted that your target price is 11% above the current price, I would agree with you about IBM. I really enjoy the diversification they bring to the table not just through their product offerings, but also where they do business. They are setup really well to battle domestic corporate spending reductions.
I agree with you, this is a great time to scoop up a solid share of VMWare. The company may face some rough patches in the short run but a solid long term holding with the terrific products it offers.
I should reword my thoughts, we have not bottomed, I do not know where we will. As the market is declining like this, great values are being revealed especially in IT where solid companies are trading around historic lows. Just a thought to keep in mind for the interested.
blink0404, sitting on the sidelines with some cash is a smart decision, however when the market is bottoming out like it is, investors need to take advantage of the low levels and perhaps buy into the S&P500.
Ravo, I agree with you that the tangible book value is not a solid measure since we are shareholders will probably see none of that after liquidation

I really like CSCO, although there will be "softness" in the domestic economy, I would think in mid 2009 corporate spending towards network upgrades will ramp up. It is time to replace older networks with faster ones. However this is a solid pick and a sure bell weather stock.
