  • Kellogg: Poised For International Growth And Paying A 2.9% Annual Dividend Yield [View article]
    SteveTheHawk,
All valid points. Thanks for your comment.
One thing for sure...this is a different Kellogg Company than most of us grew up with!

    aminat,
    thank you for your comment.
I don't think it is ever too late to start investing but I would caution you to start small and invest at regular intervals rather than jumping in and putting all your cash to work at once. There is simply no way to know the direction of the market...and because you are starting at age 51 you probably can't afford to get caught in a market moving down...simply because you wouldn't have as much time to recover losses as someone in their 20s or 30s would.
I agree US stocks, particularly the large caps, are the place to start for the reasons you state. Be sure to diversify right from the start...so you now own PG and you want to buy a utility...then look toward another industry as you mitigate risk by spreading your investments across different industry categories and sectors.
    I wish you good luck.

  • How A Company Like Johnson & Johnson Can Rescue Your Retirement [View article]
    Doug,
    Good article with solid information.

I did want to point out that you have an error in your symbol for Procter and Gamble (PG)

    as in this sentence:
Other companies that fit this mold are Procter & Gamble (PNG), Coca-Cola (KO), Exxon (XOM), and Wal-Mart (WMT).

    Johnny Stox,
    You could be right...
And if the purchase price includes a 20% premium as with Heinz, I hope you are!

    AcousticRootz,
Great comment. Bottom line, especially for newer investors like youngdividend, is to do your own rigorous research and tune out the noise some of the television commentators.

    youngdividend,
Jim Cramer says lots of stuff. If he didn't make buy or sell calls he wouldn't have a television show.

How might your goals differ from Cramer's? Your profile states you are buying dividend paying stocks and reinvesting the dividends in hopes of retiring years down the road. On the other hand Cramer may be making a call about the next quarter or the next six months...

Long-term, I and other posters here see MDLZ as a solid investment. It just makes sense to us that the superior product portfolio of this company will be desired in the rest of the world just like it has been in the U.S. and developed countries over the last 2 plus generations under the name of KRAFT.

No one knows what the future holds, not even Jim Cramer. So keep an eye on this stock over the next dozen years.

Thanks for your comment! And good luck to you. Starting young is the most important factor in having a secure financial retirement. Congratulations!

mj, exactly! Oreos, Ritz, Wheat Thins and dozens of other products will remain in demand world-wide well into the future. Plus, the company will continue to create products we don't even know we'll want!

    Hi Red,
I appreciate your comment...but I have to suggest at least a little patience is in order, after all this is the very first reporting quarter as a stand alone company.
Why all the selling after a miss? I suggest you Google 'PG quarterly earning misses' to see all their misses and subsequent sell-offs only to be at an all time high this week.
A better example is this weeks (Tuesday) miss by Coca-Cola and 5% share price reduction from Monday's close to Thursday's close. Who wouldn't classify KO as a great company?

It is the great brands, superior sales machine and international footprint that will drive MDLZ through the future.

We will know in the next several years if the Kraft split up really boosted returns. I'm sticking with MDLZ over the long haul.

holbornnine, great comment! Isn't that the truth on HNZ!

By the way, did you see that Berkshire revealed today that it holds 12.8 million shares of MDLZ? I like investing where Buffett does!

    TakeFive,
    Thanks for your comment.
I appreciate where you are coming from, but from my perspective a 4% move in a trading session is significant...especially with what some consider boring and mundane names like KRFT or MDLZ.

You may absolutely be right that you will get a better price by waiting and watching. Waiting has worked in my favor and against me.

    jonpot,
    Thanks for your comment.
No one knows what the future holds, but buying when others are selling makes sense as long as the underlying fundamentals and story on the company remain good. I think that is the case here.

    Brian,
Thanks for the comment....I do think we will see more "cross pollination" of and between brands of MDLZ. Doing so (I called it leveraging shelf space in the article) represents a significant upside over time for the company!
