  • Utility ETFs Making A Swift Comeback [View article]
Sabrient's forward-looking SectorCast-ETF model is also forecasting ongoing strength in Utilities, as I discussed in last week's blog post: sabrient.com/blog/?p=584

  • Stealth ETF Can Potentially Deliver Big Results [View article]
In response to a couple of the comments, let me say that the Sabrient Stealth Index ranks all eligible stocks every calendar quarter using a quantitative algorithm comprising both growth and value factors, and only highly ranked stocks are included. Every quarter, stocks in the index must requalify for eligibility and are re-ranked to continue as members of the index (subject to turnover limitations). So, this is a quarterly index of the "best" growth-at-reasonable-p... (GARP) stocks that are currently flying under the radar of most Wall Street analysts.

  • RIM: 'I’m Not Dead Yet' [View article]
Our quant models love RIMM, too. A great pairs trade going into earnings was long RIMM, short PALM. RIMM has been rated StrongBuy and PALM rated StrongSell by Sabrient's ratings algorithm.

  • Choosing the Right Sector ETF: A Seeking Alpha Expert Panel [View article]
Great idea for a panel discussion. I'm looking forward to listening in.
Another approach is to employ a proven sector rotation model, or an enhanced long/short ETF model (top-ranked stocks from top-ranked sectors and low-ranked stocks from low-ranked sectors). This is a trading strategy rather than an investing strategy, but it can be quite appealing to many. I blog every week about one such approach in my Sector Detector column.

  • November ETF Assets Mark More Records [View article]
Good info, Tom. However, your numbers have a misleading comma (at least for American nomenclature). For example, it should be $751.96 billion, not $751,962 billion. Perhaps you meant $751,962 million.

  • Net Insider Trading Turns Positive [View article]
Sabrient is a quant firm with lots of data to digest & many ways to interpret it, and for Insider Transactions, we like the concept of counting "votes" so to speak. Each insider who buys or sells on the open market is essentially voting on his company's prospects. Total dollars can be skewed by a few large sellers who might be selling into market strength, but that can't happen with the 1-person/1-vote view.

It's your prerogative to agree or disagree with any insights we might draw from this, but calling it "total BS" and accusing me of having an agenda sure seems like a rude overstatement.

Sabrient's quant approach has proven quite successful, and we do not make calls on the overall market direction. Although we don't manage money ourselves, we primarily serve institutional portfolio managers & hedge funds. Our top picks show excellent performance relative to the benchmarks, and our absolute return long/short strategies show incredible returns in all market conditions. That's why hedge funds like to work with us.

Also, it's worth noting in this discussion that our Sabrient Insider Sentiment Index has shown tremendous performance, and the ETF that tracks it (ticker NFO) just passed its 3-yr anniversary and received a prestigious 4-Star Rating from Morningstar. The index selects a group of stocks based on the number & magnitude of insider purchases and analyst upward revisions. In fact, it has returned 143% from its March low, including dividends.

  • E*Trade: Potential Ameritrade Merger Makes Sense for Both Companies [View article]
AMTD has their hands full right now with the thinkorswim purchase & merger. But stranger things have happened. It's true that a takeover has been rumored for a long time, but perhaps now is a more appropriate time in the financial sector & capital markets for it to actually happen.
