14 Stocks and 2 Strategies for High Yield Dividends [View article]
Good discussion, I've discovered the best way to get a contentious debate going is to mention the word "dividend"...There may be some misunderstanding on my objective here: 1) This is just a screen based on 2 different criteria from academic papers I recently read. 2) I would suggest reading the background along with returns on both strategies studied, here scottsinvestments.blog... and here scottsinvestments.blog.... Judging by some of the comments, I don't believe everyone has done that 3) The highest yielding sectors in the market right now tend to be utilities, telecom, and reits, thus the current results of the screen; however, it goes without saying that this is article is not meant to be comprehensive portfolio.

To the first 2 comments: 1) An analysis of yielding stocks from 1990-2006 was done by Credit Suisse papers.ssrn.com/sol3/p... which finds similar results that the highest yielding stocks are not the top performers, however, 2) a momentum affect exists among stocks and has been well-documented. I would suggest starting here for some research on the topic: www.cxoadvisory.com
