I advised getting out of coal in a recent article. I reiterate. Sell BTUUQ, ANRZQ, ACIIQ, JRCCQ. Obama will crush them. Our economy is toast.

    • pete123: good call on the sell's, but i'd say it's a lot more about natgas than obama or the epa.

    • dwillis: short term maybe. long term - the world needs coal. thats a fact.

    • Seth Walters: They were talking on bloomberg today about a $20 per metric ton CO2 tax on all fossil fuels. Coal puts out about 3.1 tons of CO2/ton coal.
      11/7/12
    • Seth Walters: So, slapping a $60 tax per ton on something that sells for between 10 and 70 a ton now would basically destroy coal.

    • Seth Walters: Natgas will take a hell of a pounding from a big carbon tax too. http://bloom.bg/RiOrPL

    • Seth Walters: Dwillis - if Obama is able to cause a radical shift to solar over the next 4 years coal will be perma crippled in the US.

    • Seth Walters: Even if it collapses the economy in the process. Which it will. I'm 100% short the market. Sorry America. Your leaders failed you.

    • pete123: the $20/t is a scare number, plainly not possible, for the simple reason that it would kill all carbon based fuel sources.
      11/7/12
    • pete123: if a complete transition to solar would be possible it would be great, but it's not even close to possible.... maybe in 20 years.
      11/7/12
    • pete123: phasing out underground mined thermal coal in favor of other fuels might happen. not the end of the world.
      11/7/12
    • Seth Walters: pete123, now that Obama doesn't have to get reelected, maybe he WILL kill all carbon based fuel sources. Or do his damnedest anyway.
      11/7/12
    • Seth Walters: If carbon taxes made solar energy cheaper we would be churning out solar panels by the billion. And paying $300 a month electric bills.

    • pete123: He isn't Dr. Evil. Obama will do what his sponsors want, just like Romney.
      11/7/12
    • vinyal: and obama will not allow the mining. Go find your own coal
      11/7/12
    • Seth Walters: His sponsors are radical environmentalists though. His energy secretary Steven Chu says gasoline prices are way too low. Ideologues?
      11/8/12
    • pete123: doubt it... radical environmentalists tend to be hippies with little money. your average billionaire is a lot more conservative.

    • w_seattle: Obama is a part of the machine designed to calm down the social side of things. His masters will not allow him to destroy coal.

    • wigit5: JRCCQ crashing despite other coal names showing support
      11/9/12
    • cfb5006: JRCCQ moved off of 1.68 - what changed that made it worth 5.70? 2.5 puts it about where there other coal names are right now.

    • jack102: Don't be ridiculous and give obama that much credit. He has no power to do such a thing.

    • taborknight: Jack, natural gas is the cheapest its been in years. Big coal companies like Edison are going bankrupt because they can't compete.
