  • Should You Copy The 'Ron Paul Portfolio'? [View article]
The article is about the portfolio, not politics. Paul is one of my favorite congressmen.

But Paul -was- in the "game" 20 or 30 years ago. Ignoring that is pointless. Don't cherry pick.

Regular gold coins are considered collectibles for tax purposes. It's a shame, but it's how it works.

W, congresspersons have different reporting requirements than regular citizens. Paul has talked about investing in coins in the past, but he hasn't reported any in quite some time.

He's possibly worried about gold confiscation, and I wouldn't blame him for that at all.

Yes, let's ignore the first two decades because it fits our prejudices better. That's a great way to approach long-term investing.

I wouldn't vote for him to save my life. I'm the editor of website dedicated to defending free-market economics.

How's that stereotyping working for you?

That wasn't an argument for economic collapse -- it was an example of malinvestment. I think stagflation and structural unemployment problems are far more likely than "economic collapse".

My point was specifically about government debt and bad household credit-based investments -- not all household debt.

And laugh at Zero Hedge all you want, but they quoted Fitch on roughly 1/3 of student loans being 30 days late right now. That's a bad sign, and goes perfectly along with the second half of everything in the article.

Prices collapsed in 1980, and inflation and money printing didn't stop -- the two aren't perfectly correlated.

That said, I think that same money printing is why buying gold after a possible crash would be a wonderful call.
