There was a time when desktops outsold laptops 8 or 9 to 1 also. All I'm saying is that the PC is going to be not much more than a device to access the Internet.

So about all this Silverlight hoopla. Do you have any references for Netflix using silverlight in anything except on the client side for the Netflix player on PCs and Macs?

Thanks, I wish I had waited a little more going long NOK. But I still think it will quadruple in two years from here.

Really you start with "platform agnostic" and a Microsoft product? 29.1 million Netflix users are nothing compared to the number of Youtube users just FYI. I did say I like MS Tech. I have no problems with Silverlight as a technology. But HTML5 is the future. And this minor nitpick about whether Silverlight is a failure or a success has minimal impact on the discussion here. The point is some things failed and some things succeeded and that MS needs to throw money around in more areas than other folks have to just because they are playing catch up in those areas.

That makes Nokia a good acquisition candidate by Microsoft. They can follow Google-Motorola footsteps.

Silverlight was going to be a Flash killer. Netflix (one company) using Silverlight for their stuff doesn't mean anything. Silverlight wasnt even able to convince 5% of Flash users on the web to switch over.

I'd agree with you on the others that they do lots of things except that none of the side projects for them are core to their main businesses. For Microsoft all this stuff is part of their core business. Look at it this way. What would happed to Google if gmail went away? or to Amazon if A9 went away. Or to Apple if their stores went away or iCloud went away? Now look at Microsoft - Everything is a core segment for microsoft. They can no longer survive on Windows and Office alone.

I wouldn't use words like cannot. Plus AFAIK, NiMH patents expire in a few years anyway.

I mean the death of a PC as in death of Windows and Operating Systems as we know them. We are heading to a future everything having something like a mobile OS except for developers and other advanced users.

Isnt that Tesla's eventual plan to build a viable 30k EV? I'm hoping that is announced by 2014 to get one in 2015. Or hopefully by 2015 the leaf, focus electric or some other car will be actually affordable (5k more than the equivalent gas version)
