Thanks for feedback, appreciate it. The costs of 24/7 care really are incredible. Luckily we are not there yet, but it is something we have to plan for the possibility of needing. How old was your mom when she bought insurance?

Would be very interesting to compare what they have taken out vs. put into social security and medicare. Does anyone know of any studies on this topic? I believe social security and medicare were designed assuming live spans in the low 70's, obviously much lower than today's average.

Agree that a portion in dividend stocks, MLP's, REITS, etc. is prudent but have to make sure she can withstand a 30 to 40% drop in the market like we experienced in 2000 to 2002 and 2007-2009 without jeopardizing her lifestyle.

Thanks for the advice. I will look into it. Have the same issue, my aunt has been living in the same apartment for 60 years...very attached to it. But she is very social, and hates being alone. Not an easy choice.

China's run up in debt is very similar to that of the US (Ireland, Spain, etc) during the housing boom(s). Hyman Minsky called it "Ponzi Finance" where additional lending is supported by higher and higher asset prices in pro cyclical manner, not the underlying cash flows of the collateral (assets).

Agree, they are actually must better than other countries at running the printing press, just look at their M2, 1.5 X as big as the U.S, an economy twice as big. But an outflow of money by local and foreign investors, although tough because of capital controls, would be difficult to counter with a printing press, as will most likely lead to a depreciating currency and inflation on imported goods like energy.
