Is Iceland Really Going To Peg Currency To Canadian Dollar? [View article]
i see your point, although i think the sentiment factor -- meaning how the news would be perceived by the world at large -- may be of greater relevance here. pegging to CAD would be something new in the monetary world.
Amazon Beware: The Google Empire Strikes Back [View article]
amazon will bring integration and good governance to the android ecosystem. many of the apps will be easily ported over and i bet amazon works to make that as easy as possible for the apps they want on their platform. they are also developing their own content, both in regards to movies and books, and if they can pull this off -- which i'm sure they can for books given their position -- they will have end to end control and won't have copyright issues to deal with.
apple will win the luxury market, but for the masses, amazon is the best positioned to offer an easy to use ecosystem.
Amazon Beware: The Google Empire Strikes Back [View article]
the kindle is designed to sell the amazon ecosystem. it is not a tablet so much as it is a media device, and has been referred to as such by amazon. competition for the kindle needs to be viewed in the context of competing ecosystems -- not competing technology devices.
i am a big fan of amazon and expect them to grow and win, but the opportunity is priced in and the stock is likely to be overpriced. i dream of a drastic sell off that would let me buy.
see other articles i wrote on apple, some of which were bullish. i've always expressed concern for apple as a buy and hold, and view it better for trading. i fully acknowledge being wrong on this, but when you cite an article saying i was short apple in 2009, it is worth noting the perspective i am operating from.
is this the same SEC that couldn't stop madoff and enron? although CFDs being illegal is due more to the NFA, which wants to protect the futures industry. you can tell yourself it's about your own safety if you'd like.
i may take a shot at shorting. as i noted in the article, it's important to wait for the right technical setup and be willing to be wrong (so cut losses short) to take advantage of this speculative opportunity. from this perspective, identifying that a bubble is forming is useful, as it alerts to us to the potential opportunity in finding technical setups to reverse.

a call is not right or wrong until the position is closed. i've averaged down significantly so i have a very nice floating profit on TRX. of course, as i stated, that doesn't mean anything as the profit, or loss, is not realized until the position is closed. perhaps you are 100% accurate in calling tops and bottoms of stocks with market caps below 500 million, but for the rest of us mortals, we'll have to settle for imperfection. i do believe the stock will go much, much higher than it's existing all-time highs so i think the stock is still very much worth buying for those who are not in at all. i have the same attitude towards all the companies i find promising in the gold mining sector, and to the metal itself.
Timmins Gold: Promising, But There Are Better Deals Out There [View article]
you are trying to say that i said vista has earnings from mining and engages in drilling. please re-read the article, you will see i never said that.
the reason vista is mentioned is because it offers exposure to gold mining industry, and thus i view it as comparable to timmins. offering exposure to gold mining, and engaging in gold mining, are two different issues. please consult a dictionary for further clarification.

please read the article again, and let me know where i said vista produced an ounce of gold. also, please read the title of this article, and let me know why you think vista is the focus. maybe before you comment, you might consider reading the article.

hey bird-man,
well, everything is a risk, so from that perspective, i suppose it is not a meaningful distinction. but i think gold is a safer insurance policy, and is better suited to what most people think about when they think of savings -- safely storing wealth. silver has more risk, and more reward, in comparison.

solar and wind cannot provide baseload power, solar is better than wind and can be a supplement to nuclear (provide peaking output with nuclear provides baseload). wind is an obsolete power source with virtually no advantages on any dimension (most costly, bad for environment when one considers the fossil fuels used to create wind, the massive land required, the birds killed from wind turbines, and simply does not generate a meaningful supply of power for an industrial society).

if you're going to take aim at seaweed, feel free to do so -- i'm interested in counter arguments.
i don't view plutonium as a problem. political maturity is required to access greater total energy levels no matter what the energy source is.
i think the case that lifecycle innovation can occur in the nuclear sector is strong. i think makes nuclear even more viable as peak oil looms. last but certainly not least, so long as we are not willing to disregard the law of thermodynamics, energy density remains the primary metric by which quality of energy source is evaluated. nothing beats nuclear in that regard.

thank you for sharing your comments -- it is always especially useful when those with deep industry experience share their insight. perhaps you are correct about carbon emissions, though i've seen data suggesting global warming is occurring throughout hte solar system (i.e. ice caps on mars are melting) which makes me wonder. and given that algae farms and other plants can consume carbon dioxide, i wonder if there are solutions that do not require taxing and through financialization.
