My intent is to be a long term investor. I focus my time on looking for outlier opportunities, predominantly on the long side. I have spent the last 18 years as an analyst and portfolio manager for large institutions in both mutual fund and pension fund settings and have been responsible for assets ranging from a few hundred million to north of $1B. I am currently taking a break and spending time building my personal account as, up to this point, I have not been able to invest in the names I follow.
Portfolio manager of the Granahan Focused Growth investment strategy at Granahan Investment Management. We are a $3 Billion boutique specializing in Small Cap Equities. Launched in 2007, the Granahan Focused Growth strategy ranks in the top 5% of its peer group for the 1 year, 3 year, and since inception periods ended 6/30/12. The philosophy is to get to to know companies one would take if "stranded on a desert island" for many years. These companies have open-ended opportunities, sound business models, sustainable competitive advantages, strong financials, and superior management. This company analysis is then combined with an intense stock valuation methodology centered on a risk/reward and expected return. Particular emphasis is placed on minimizing downside risk. The net result is a portfolio of attractively priced stocks of some of the most exciting and innovative companies in the economy.
