solar energy is already competitive. middle eastern plants being built at 6c/kWh. Why would you need a utility when you can develop solar power yourself.

Why is 20 P/E outlandish when companies can grow earnings at around 15-20%. Competition in solar industry is reducing in my view and the market leaders have an edge.

solar energy has increased from around 100 MW in 2000 to around 8000 MW in 2008 and 45000 MW in 2014 . Current forecast is around 53000-57000 MW in 2015 globally. The growth is set to continue in the double digits for the long term . Draw your own conclusions

Technology is rapidly competing with other industries and disrupting them. Newspapers are one eg. of how technology has disrupted them, same with TV networks these days. What has worked in the past may not work in the future. Given the solar advance, utilities may not be a very safe investment. Just my 6 cents

  • Applied Materials: Why The Stock Is Still A Sell [View article]
you can look at semiconductor growth which is down as well for looking at cycles.

Semicap stocks never a secular growth stories like a facebook . They move in a yo-yo manner and you play that.Semi Capex is going down and that is all that matters.

  • How To Invest In The Indian Stock Market - Part 5 [View article]
There are large number of companies in India's infra space. However, given the interest of the audience , I have not covered them as they are listed in the Indian stock market and not the US one.

INXX has most of the high quality stocks

Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd ADANIPORTS 5.86
    IDEA CELLULAR LTD. IDEA.BO 5.76
BHARAT HEAVY ELECTRICALS LTD. BHEL.BO 5.69
    Ambuja Cements Ltd AMBUJACEM. 5.60
    NTPC LTD. NTPC.BO 5.49
    Tata Motors Ltd TATAMOTORS 5.27
    Bharti Airtel Ltd BHARTIARTL 5.24
    SIEMENS LTD. SIEMENS.BO 4.98
    Bharti Infratel Ltd INFRATEL.B 4.94
    Cummins India Ltd CUMMINSIND 4.89

Some bad ones are JP Associates, GMR, Lanco which I would avoid

I don't think buying Chinese stocks to play the Indian story will work out. Some Chinese equipment suppliers may work out but most of the infra contracts will go to Indian companies

Solar is an extremely dynamic industry and you have to change your viewpoints and stance based on developments. This is not a buy and hold industry. For example Sunpower would have been bankrupt if Total had not bought a stake, but it is a good buy now. I don't think even First Solar would have survived if not for the very lucrative DOE projects it had got earlier.

    1) We can disagree
    2) Political risk in high - Look at what happened at the solar project in Crimea . Even PPA terms have been changed by Spain and Italy (though both are developed).
