  • Qualcomm - Patent Power [View article]
@alpine - I don't fully understand what you mean. do you mean the mobile phone and tablet makers in China. how can they escape paying loyalty to QCOM, if you are buying the product from QCOM itself? Also I don't think other makers of CDMA products can escape because they are big companies such as Nvidia,Intel,Mediatec and others.

thank you bob for liking the article. I should have added managment issue in the pepsi problems list. Managment has not changed despite the poor performance. If this would have been a tech company then we would have seen a change as the company's performance would have been much worse

@berloe - that is true. however if you see a bit more longer term, i think that intel can still grow due to its ability to capture a sign share of the mobile processor market. also its capex and R&d should reduce going forward which will free up additional cash for shareholders. intc spent $5 in buyback and $4 bb in dividends in 2012. if they had given it all in dividends, that would have made it a ~8-9% yield.

perhaps I could not explain my thought processes correctly. What I meant to say is that it is tough to grow when you are already very big. Its easy for a small company say Sodastream to grow at a very rapid pace given its small market share, but it will be tough for a Coca Cola to grow given they already have a huge size.

  • Should You Buy Yingli, The Largest Solar Panel Maker? [View article]
the cost varies , it is about $2.5/watt in Germny and $4-5/watt in USA. They last for 25-30 years. the degradation is around 0.2-0.3% per year. The problem with nuclear energy is the huge time and cost overruns . Another thing with nuclear energy is that uou can set up a 10 kw reactor on top of your house.

even if it goes for pennies how does it help. LDK goes bankrupt and its 15000 ton poly plant goes for pennies. lets say their overall cost is $30/kg with $25/kg for raw materials, power, labor etc. and $5/kg for interest cost to build the plant. GCL can make poly at $20/kg all inclusive. ASP is $18/kg now . Even if i buy this plant at not pennies but for zero value . how will that help me?
