@e - thank you for the contra opinion on my article. As I said before I don't think AA is a short , but don't see lot of upside. However, from the comments above, it seems that AA might be buy in some future if demand suddenly grows due to increased usage in auto manufacturing/aircraft / new products

@steve - we have not broken down the individual demand components. overall demand growth as expected by AA ( see their annual report linked) is 6.5% .

@ramadeva - the 6.5% growth estimate include all the markets like aerospace, autos, building , packinaging etc . I did not break it up individually

@steve - if you read the article carefully we have not said that you should short the stock, we just see a lack of meaningful upside at the current stage.

@just - a) there are a lot of problems with China , the biggest being overinvestment fueled by artificially low rates ( a reason for the low aluminium prices) . You can read Mr. Pettis for a much more detailed analysis b) sometimes diversification can be good and sometimes it can be bad. in alcoa's case it has been bad because it has got hit more than diversified miners c) consolidation in the industry will help (if that happens i will put in a buy) .

Main point is that Alcoa and others are heavily dependent on China gorwing its demand like it did in the past. I don't think that is going to happen . don't think a cans or cars will help the situation. AA has little growth and equally little dividend yield
