Where's the Line for the Motorola XOOM? On Amazon.com!
While there aren't any lines outside Staples, Costco, or Best Buy, there is one place where there is a "line" of sorts for the Motorola XOOM - Amazon.com. For the past few days, Amazon (meaning the company itself, acting as a reseller) has been sold out of the XOOM - as of this morning, more XOOM are promised to be in-stock by Saturday. (See the listing
Again, no tangible numbers are available and I don't want to get too enthusiastic about the XOOM launch, but I think it's hard to negatively spin the fact that Amazon sold all of its initial inventory of XOOMs in a few days.
Hopefully, Motorola has more XOOMs on the way to retailers - moving as many as possible during the next few weeks/months before the next wave of tablets hits the market would be in Motorola's best interest.
Motorola XOOM Tablet Outselling iPad on Amazon.com
A listing of the "Top 100 in Computers and Accessories" shows:
This is a pleasant surprise for Android fans, technology enthusiasts and MMI shareholders (I am one). Consumers had been eagerly awaiting a cheaper WiFi-only XOOM, but blog comments doesn't necessarily translate into sales. This piece of evidence certainly doesn't mean that the XOOM's sales success is guaranteed, but it's very heartening after plenty of pre-launch concerns and mixed feelings about the original $800 XOOM.
And a quick note to people who may have been reading my eariler XOOM articles: The two-week publishing gap was due to spring break and recovery. I plan to resume covering MMI and the XOOM soon.
