    the usa consumer pre 2008 created savings via investments (equities, housing, etc). right now the traditional methods (savings, bonds, etc) are being employed. this is a seismic shift and will not change soon. i see no change to this for the next few years - and therefore see no expansion to consumption. the government is carrying too much debt and has painted itself into a box to be able to stimulate or add to consumption.

    singapore and the rest of asia is hunkering down. they are trying to stimulate domestic demand but it is not working. do not look to asia to pick up demand.

    every day i feel more comfortable that we are not going into a depression but more like a major realignment in the fabric of the world economy. this process will be not be over quickly. do not buy into the talking heads view of a short lived recession.
