we have laid the foundation for inflation. if there is no recovery i agree that inflation may not be a problem (L shaped recession). but when recovery happens inflation will occur.

Eric, good article on bonds. dcb good insight on timing. i might suggest though that we may not be at the bottom of the credit crisis yet - but within six months we might have a better idea. i am just afraid all the shoes have not fallen yet.

let me understand. the level of debt in the US is massive to the extent that banks will not loan because they question the viability of the borrower when they view the existing debt. all that will happen if the government assumes the risk of the credit instruments is the taxpayers now bear risk of loss (with no benefit).

sometimes doctors induce comas in patients with brain traumas to aid in recovery. this debt needs time to work out of the system without exposing the taxpayers to massive potential losses. it is time to put the economy into a coma instead of trying to get your virgin patient to jog around the block.

Well smarty_pants hit the nail on the head. but i guess it is easy to agree with people who have reacted the same way to this market.

for me, the financial system is opaque. many people out there are pumping equities and commodities. they have no basis to make any claim that it is time to buy. so a reasonable person must wait to see fundamentals (not somebody's opinion) showing you that conditions will allow you to invest.
