CHL probably is still the best China telecom/wireless play, but as I said it faces two problems: the economy and the immature 3g standard. More update on the TDMA last week: CHL decided to rent the TDMA network from its parent (China Mobile Group). This is typical, just like China Mobile Group gave 500 M Yuan to China Telecom a short while ago. In other words, I am not too worried about the Capex of CHL, as its parent will likely to foot the TDMA bill, and also CHL has done aggressive depreciation on its GSM networks. But all this did not solve the key problem for CHL: how to win the 3G war in China using TDMA?

CHA maybe good for a trade, but it also has its share of problem. Note CHA was the parent of China Mobile 10 years ago, it got a lot legacy issues, now it got the weakest network (CDMA) from China Unicom. I would wait and see how the Sky wing campaign turns out.

Suppose a grandfather wanted give $500 to his elder son, but he does not have any money. So he asked younger son for $500. According to the tribal tradition, son can not say no to father. So the younger son agreed, but he does not have any money either. He knows his son (CHL) has $500 at bank. So he asked CHL... ]]>

Also China Mobile has an almost Monopoly (not really even a Duopoly) over the Chinese Market and they are lots and lots of people. The culture is to use mobile phone (ranging from Migrant workers wanting to keep in touch with freinds all the way up to the chinese Models wanting to look safisticated and lets not forget Chinese Business People that like to shout orders down the phone in public to show 'face'). Not only that China Mobile has a better network of shops that any Bank and are making good money. Even though there reporting is for sure very suspect. Evern the ADR.

Its a good play if people want to trade 'the buy China trade'

The downside is the Government will use this company to maintain employment levels at any cost in the event of a downturn. However I dont see no downturn, quite the opposite. All I see is wage differential getting bigger and middle/upper class getting richer through asset inflation appreciation. No doubt there will be some more opression of the poor to limit political risk. But whats new?

for those who followed US listed Chinese stock long enough, you will know China.com (CHINA) , now renamed as CDC Corp. was also selling a story that they have Xinhua News Agency affliated subsidiary (quite remote indeed, that subsid was a company formed in Hong Kong, but I doubt whether the Agency itself even knew there was such an associated outfit in Hong Kong at all) as its shareholder, turned out CHINA was a very successful listing in NASDAQ during the dotcom era. But how does the stock perform now?

Sorry, this sort of 'brand borrowing' story doesn't appeal to me when there are so many better PRC stocks to choose from, those companies have better fundamentals without the need to brand-borrow elsewhere.

But I do pay very high respect to those underwriters and company founders who can create and arrange those beautiful stories.]]>

I also felt a bit suspicious on JP Morgan because I remember they were the underwriter of NINE too. I think they are not as good as Goldman and ML. From now on I will be more careful about JP Morgan.]]>

This company looks a lot like NINE where there was so many inter-relations of the CEO with other companies he founded. That fked up stock priced at $12 opened at $13 in 2004 and is now trading at $4 something.

And finally remember this equation: Chinese IPO => JP Morgan/Credit Suisse = CRAP, POS, RUN !!!]]>

XFML is pretty much a wrapper for the underlying conglomorate of business. The COMPLETE lack of organic growth makes it the LEAST promising Chinese stock offers.

One research already questioned the corporate governance of this company. The reading of prospect did not inspire me at all, but apparantely the name of this company offered many people wishful imaginations.

My recommendation of this stock: STRONG SELL before it is too late.]]>
