  • BlackBerry (BBRY +2%) spikes higher on rumors Carl Icahn has bought a stake in the company. H-P was the beneficiary of such rumors a couple weeks ago. Earlier today, Scotia Capital argued a strategic partner such as IBM (once reported to be interested in BBRY's network operations centers) is likely to buy the company. [View news story]

  • RIM: Profit Off The Launch Of BB10 [View article]
It does, thanks for using the same analogy. It really comes down to how big of a chance it is to hit 0 (or how being the 0 space is for the ball to fall in...) On the roulette wheel its one thing, but what it ends up bring with RIM is another. It might be larger of a probability then is intended. At least with the roulette wheel, you can see the wheel before placing bets, whereas with the stock market, you only get to the wheel after the spin is over....

Exactly, I never said it made sense :-)

But when you spread options, why don't you just go one way, and not keep a credit save your trading costs. Then you are tighting your range to be right.

For example long calls with RIMM and forget the rest, if you are wrong you are wrong. With the way the fundamentals, and technicals are at the moment with RIMM, and the anticipation of BB10. In my opinion use the long call and forget the rest. Unless you are perfect with timing and you owned puts to sell on the earnings release.

I am not sure if there will be another big drop from here until BB10 launch. hence my position with just long calls. but to each their own.

It is almost akin to going into a casino, and putting some on Black, and some on Red, but just a little bit more on Black... and hoping it doesn't come up zero....

  • RIM's 23% Plunge, A Gross Overreaction? [View article]
    @murphytan,

I think so because the project volume should offset. Plus we are talking about Joe user not paying as much as Joe business. If you look at the core numbers of who is who in the subs that gives you an idea ect..

    Wow 70,000 APPS,

That means I have like what 1200 solitaries to choose from? Do 70,000 apps fit on one phone?

I guess those estimates of surveys saying that 70% of 80 million subs upgrading don't mean anything to the Dev's.

I don't know if I was a Dev, i'd be like lets review.

    80 million subs,
Good dev tools,Positive carrier feedbackStrong business following (for business related apps)Potential to win back some heavy social media users with BB Flow, and new apps to take advantage of all the new architecture
Guaranteed pay if I don't make $10K or the difference there of as long as I have a good APP...
A market to compete in that is not saturated with plenty of APPS (AAPL, GOOG products)

Gee how to make a business decision here... I think i'd Dev for the new BB, but that's just me...

So has Buffet, Prem's a billionaire those are his credentials. Of course nobody gets it right 100% of the time. I"ll say this though Prem has been right enough, to be where he is. I'd say his probability of picks is good enough to be a positive point.

    Ronin,

You of all people should know that victory is not guaranteed to the force with superior numbers, it's strategy and tactics that matter most.

It's MS, they always screw up at launch and fix it over time win 7 was Vista fixed...

Looks like Rim knows from the PB, that don't work in this short cycle phone/tab market.
