  • 5 Communication Company Stocks to Ring in Dividends [View article]
To say MOST of T's customers are not unhappy is certainly qualifying your statement. They have serious network issues in cities such as San Francisco and in parts of New York due to data hogging network capacity in certain areas. This is easily solvable if they could offload that data onto someone else's network, such as Wi-Fi.

Also, yes the VZ iPhone sales disappointed, but they were selling an old phone....wait until the new iPhone comes out and check the sales numbers, Apple will be the real winner, but VZ has the best chance of selling more than T (for many reasons, less saturation within the subscriber base, etc.).

And the fact that these phone companies can offer the triple play is significant. T's U-Verse has been stealing TW Cable customers in my hometown steadily for the past 2-3 years...its a better product with better customer service at the moment.

These new business segments they are bringing on are the future of the companies and will ultimately be the deciding factor in whether this sector can continue to reward investors with high yielding dividends.

SP -this article was written and submitted before the LYC news and before the dilutive MCP transaction (and hence the Dahlman Rose action) on the bright side I believe MCP will use some of that money for M&A which will be directed at the rest of the sector - not that it is likely but I would lile some one to take out Arafura as I am underwater on ARU...

  • Utica Shale Oil Play Update [View article]
Something to keep in mind is that CHK is playing their cards very close to the vest here. Even their partner, EVEP, admits CHK is privy to more data than anyone else in the Utica - of course CHK has done more work too. After they monetize and drill some more wells, we should get a better idea of the true nature of the future production. Remember CHK compares this to the Eagle Ford Shale, not Marcellus so their later results should indicate this.

Understood. Another thing to consider with selling the goose that lays the golden eggs is the headache of discovering your tax basis in the shares you received from DRIPping...such a headache!

  • Rare Earths Perking Up [View article]
learn before you speak, it would behoove you to follow the advice of your own handle. the article was not a slam on lynas, and further more did not state they would not be first to production. they still have the best chance, but one of the most important factors in the industry happens to be the disposal of radioactive by-product/waste and WILL stop more than a few projects in their tracks.

notice that the article was highlighting stocks traded on the so-called 'reputable' stock exchanges here in the u.s., not the pinksheets, thus the reason lynas is not listed. i still maintain they need a listing on the amex, nyse or even nasdaq to help attract big us institutional money and traders into it. tasman was pointed out b/c they will shortly be getting listed in the u.s., but all this i am sure you already knew about.

and to clear up any confusion, seeking alpha does not tell its contributors what to write about or force any opinions, so there is no line to toe. to say otherwise would just be untruthful.

HREEs = Heavy Rare Earth Elements
LREEs = Light Rare Earth Elements

Lynas, Molycorp, Rare Element are all LREE plays. Stans, Great Western, Quest, Avalon are HREE plays. These are examples, there are many more in the sector.

To know exactly what the HREEs and LREEs are see this article:

    Hope that helps Rivervu2

  • Utica Shale Players 2nd Quarter Conference Calls Update [View article]
My numbers are straight from the conference call (they may also be verified from EVEP's corporate presentations and sec materials) and thus pertain to the publically traded EV Energy Partners LP (not Enervest and their various affiliates) - do you have any insight you can share with us on Frank well?

Cummins - perhaps you should reread the article as I am a huge fan of Stans and per the disclosure I am long ...although I am disappointed that they missed their self appointed end of January deadline for news (especially after confirming with them less than 20 days ago that they were on schedule) any rate I will be talking to them again next week.

I have to congratulate you as that is one of the better pumps of Great Western I have seen. Bravo. Still interested in seeing if they can expand that resource or up potential production from other sources.

that would work for "one dimensional" gabelli fans or those more suited to mutual fund like investments - i always seek to maximize returns by being a "stock picker" thinking that i have the tools and experience to out perform (wish that outcome was always the case...)
