  • Wednesday's Vote Will Determine Dendreon's Fate [View article]
Not true at all, I've been long this stock in the past but am currently flat. I believe in the story for the company. And given that these panel recommendations are followed in the vast majority of cases, it's quite important. SA picks the title, not me. And I haven't had to 'fix' any mistakes from the article, I misunderstood the 2007 debacle but that has nothing to do with the Medicare review.

The stock is halted this morning pending the news. Still not important huh? I was completely wrong on the 2007 history, I was not following that stock back then but it's entirely irrelevant anyway.

Beyond that, Seeking Alpha choses the titles, not me. I said their fate hangs in the balance meaning a negative recommendation would be highly detrimental in the short-run.

Amazing the number of blind Dendreon lovers calling me a fear-mongerer. It's funny really, I would think investors would want to follow an important development in the only product of an unprofitable company assigned a $5 billion valuation that needs Medicare approval for any clarity on future revenue stream. There is absolutely no fear mongering in my post, it's a simple statement that approval is critical for supporting the current valuation in the short-term.

Ahh, you are right, I misread the history in 2007, I apologize. I agree there's something political here, but regardless, tomorrow's panel is very important for investors to watch.

Sorry for all the confusion, didn't think about it when I wrote the article. The advisory panel will vote on whether the drug is an effective treatment of prostate cancer and consider its other uses. Medicare will use this report in determining the final decision of whether to cover or not next year. The panel is very important and should seal the deal if they come out positive on Provenge.

Really? You don't think it's worthwhile to consider risks when judging an investment?

The negative recommendation from the FDA's advisory panel derailed the treatment back in 2007 and crushed the stock. This panel's positive report is critical.

The Medicare advisory panel is voting tomorrow on whether Medicare should cover it. Yes, the final Medicare decision will not be made tomorrow but this panel's vote is a crucial step.

I'm not making any qualitative judgment about whether the drug should be covered (in my mind it absolutely should be). The cost, legally, should not be any part of the issue. The problem is many believe it is the motivating factor behind this entire review.

It's not a scare tactic. If they are declined tomorrow (which I don't think they should be by any stretch) I cannot see how the stock would not be adversely affected.

What do I not understand? An actual critique would be useful. I understand quite a bit more about the company and the drug than what is written here so...

So you don't think tomorrow's decision matters? In the short-term, I don't understand how it could possibly not be relevant.

  • Tilling for Returns in Potash Corporation [View article]
The point of this story is the cyclical upturn happening in these markets. The major downturn from which we're emerging is what creates the value; clearly, my argument is that earnings from the last five years are not representative of the next five. Possible competition is always an issue but barriers to entry are relatively high especially given the quality of Saskatchewan's potash mines with their flat terrains and consistency over wide distances.
