  • Update: GameStop Announces New Gift Card Exchange [View article]
I really don't understand the conclusion of this article. This news is a positive for Gamestop. Gamers can take gift cards they receive as gifts from friend/family for other retailers and convert them into Gamestop credit to buy games. How is this a negative?

Cowen: "strong Watch Dogs sales..75% of which came from the PS4 & Xbox One..evidence..new hardware is helping to revitalize software demand"

Strong quality software will drive strong sales for GameStop in 2015 (large double digit growth) due to the 2015 quality software slate. Watch Dogs and Mario Kart 8 proved this is still true in May and today.

It's hard to spin +57% y/y of actual new software sales of PHYSICAL DISCS (not digital) negative.

Here's just a handful of amazing quality software titles slated to come out in 2015 that will drive large double digit growth. Remember according to NPD sales data, Gamestop has gained 1,400bps of marketshare in new console s/w sales this cycle vs. last.

    -Halo 5
    -Zelda
    -The Order 1886
    -Uncharted 4
    -Take-Two Red Dead sequel?
    -Star Wars Battlefront
    -Battlefield 5?
    -Arkham Knight
    -Bloodborne
    -Witcher 3
    -Tom Clancy The Division
    etc. etc. etc.

2015 is stacked. Quality software drives sales.

People under-estimate how much hard-core gamers love hard-core games. Look at Watch Dogs that just came out from Ubisoft few weeks ago.

It sold 4 million copies in the first week. That's the HIGHEST EVER in video-game history for a new intellectual game property. Does that sound like a dying industry to you?

It's especially more impressive given the fact we're just months into the new console cycle and the new consoles have a small installed base that will double/triple the next 2 years.

Betting against the big growth in 2015 as the new console installed base grows won't be a good one. Good software drives software sales. And Watch Dogs sales prove console gaming is still growing and still in vogue. 2015 has many Watch Dogs-quality level games which will drive double-digit growth.

Yes, it boggles my mind to see Super Smash Brothers for Gamecube and Nintendo Wii still hold value at $25+ per game. Mario Karts too.
