Henry W. Schacht, CFA is the founder of Schacht Value Investors, an investment management firm. He earned his MBA at the University Of Chicago Graduate School of Business and a degree in finance from the University of Notre Dame.
As a value driven investor, my investment approach is safe and cheap. I focus on investing in companies with extremely strong financial positions offering future growth at a discount. I take that same top-down approach and apply a synthesis of market implied growth rates in securities to isolate companies where existing assets of the business covers the market price. I closely monitor the underlying fundamentals of financial markets and the global economy.
Where my research typically diverges from convention is - incorporating a volatility based perspective to the fundamental analysis, enhancing the risk control in investing.
I run a small, private long/short portfolio. I focus on long term value, with a full expectation of showing paper losses in the short-term. Agnostic on the topic of catalysts. Wary of false precision. Usually ignorant of quarterly results and analyst forecasts. Seeking durable insights on business models and industry trends, and general wisdom.
My academic background is in Engineering and management.
Besides one basic accounting course at university my investment knowledge is self-taught.
Reading books, SEC filings, annual reports, analyst reports, blog posts, MOOCs, message boards and listening to select podcasts and conference calls has helped me enormously to evolve as an investor.
I am a recent Ithaca College graduate with a degree in Business Administration with a Finance concentration. I was the Sector Facilitator for the Tech/Telecom sector of the Ithaca Real Time Fund in 2014 and specialize in semiconductor and component design and manufacturing. I also have experience in the EMUI sector(s). I am currently seeking employment as a research analyst at a financial firm in either Boston, New York City, or Chicago.
