    Thanks for sharing sduris...

    RE: death
interesting concept when viewed as a "renewal". I guess this is where Religion comes in. All of us are headed there one day; we just don't know "what" "there" is...

"celebrity" worship and bashing certainly is alive and well here; so is our sense of entitlement it seems. I wonder if it is because our level of education here has declined over the years?

BTW, what do you mean by "SR" and "LR"

...maybe some of the answer lies in Lora's comment about "dedicating a fab plant" leaves them at risk. Seems peculiar; are they seeing mobile as slowing down? Maybe it is a margin thing.

It would be funny if Apple bought the Sammy Texas (?) plant and staff it with ex INTC personnel to pump chips for Apple.

TXN...they cutting jobs; not sure if they are backing the right horse...

Picked up CMG, LULU, MA, CRM and RAX while waiting...

here is my stab at connecting the dots...

    - we know Apple likes their chips custom made (hence probably needing custom fabs).
    - we know that Apple has an ARM license.
    - we know INTC makes money by using its own IP and churning out those chips
    - we know there is NO WAY for Apple to continue its relationship with Sammy.

maybe...just maybe...INTC isn't willing to bypass the margins it charges on its IP to take on Apple's volumes.

I mean, why couldn't INTC manufacture Apple's custom chips (assuming Apple is willing to pay the upfront costs to re-tool)?

    TSMC....hmmm...I wondered about them too....

...I don't follow INTC; maybe someone else here does and can explain what could be preventing them from going after Apple's chip business knowing Apple doesn't care much for Sammy....

Sorry, couldn't be much help there...

LOL...to be clear...I'm not an MSFT hater; I happen to still use W7.

The "tiles" are just a bit freaky when you got a whole bunch going/changing at the same time (reminds me of a slot machine!). I don't think I'm a techno dummy but it does require re-learning and I have challenges trying to find logic in the progression of the UI in terms of how you use it.

I'm thinking of upgrading my wife's PC to W8 and see if she yells at me!

    Hey Ronin!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts; it is usually in respectful discussions that I find value in SA.

A great leader/manager (without getting caught in semantics) will almost always realize that biggest success comes from their ability (like a great conductor) to make sure each "piece" of their business produce results to support the common goal. Sports teams provide good examples.

The question I asked myself when I saw Forstall dump his shares was "why now". When his exit happened, I asked myself "why would Tim be OK with this?" (at these levels, the board would have had to be notified). We will never know.

Was iOS really a result of Forstall's own thought process or did he happen to be "just the guy" in the right place at the right time? Why would Tim have to make this decision? Again, we would never know. All I know is that if you are running a big business...you know silos aren't healthy and they cause delay.

Jon's gift is his ability to find "order" in chaos. The next inning is about to start...

I agree with your thinking...I would have been disturbed if Jon left.

Unless the fruit loop is totally different...

Corporate politics usually is a FIFO (Fit in or F off) kinda thing. You "fit in" being a competent team player or you "fit in" by kissing ass (which most people do).

Sometimes, you can be really good at what you do and you develop a distaste for what you perceive to be your incompetent counterparts (or your boss). Unless your boss is fearful of you (hence, will compromise to make you stay but will stab your back at every step), your tolerance drops to a level of your give a crap state. Ultimately, you rebel and leave (or asked to leave because of your blatant attempts to embarrass leadership hmmm...maps maybe?).

All these things don't happen overnight. I would be very very very surprised if Tim didn't talk to Steve about Forstall. If you remember Isaacson's book...he mention something about Jon being Steve's "soul mate". I think Jon was Steve's choice to be the next CEO.

IMHO, we've only been at first base.

I would be extremely surprised if they haven't flow him over yet...

If Tim and his crew are as smart as I think they are, they've already planned out the worse case scenario.

Could AAPL have done this refresh so early to clear out next to ensure you work on the software revamp?

GOOG and MSFT's world are about to be tipped....

IF PC is in a decline....there goes the real estate for GOOG to leech onto...

AAPL's SIRI combined with maps and passbook will be the key. When the day comes wherein you can plan something using those 3 key Apple functionality....you will know we have been disrupted again.

Samsungs world is also about to be ripped....cannot wait to see how the next 4 quarters for them unfolds with Apple's decreasing order.

I wish I knew skip! Sometimes I think there IS a concentrated effort done by Samsung to turn the tables on public opinion regarding Apple.

What better way to try to kill a famous brand than to cast doubt and tarnish its image?

Sounds crazy...but in Asia (more prevalent there); it is not uncommon for companies to "donate" money to sway opinions.

Samsung's history of "controlling" its interests would make the late Steve Jobs look like a saint.

One only needs to hear the argument of the haters on why fanbois buy an "under powered" computer vis a vis the latest and greatest i7s with 16GB RAMs and etc...

Unless you use a Mac...it is really hard to appreciate how it could perform so well with lesser specs. It boils down to the OS.

I asked a softie rep at a Windows store...how much free storage is there on a 32GB Surface? You will be surprised on how bloated that OS is....
