  • United Technologies - Limited Appeal Following Recent Underperformance As Valuation At Par With The Market Is Fair [View article]
General softness in some areas. They talked about China a bit with regards to its Otis business, but really the key weakness in the core UTC Security business was a bit disappointing and not well-covered in my eyes.

Yeah or perhaps a re-test of the $3-$3.50 zone would be nice.

  • Qualcomm: China Problem A Buying Opportunity? [View article]
No a potential $1bn fine won't resolve issues, and the worries about lost revenues are much more damaging than a simple on-time fine.

It clearly is a risk, but the move on the news has been substantial as well, especially after backing out the cash holdings being represented in the current valuation.

There are simply not that many chances these days with shares at these elevated levels, and perhaps but by for not certain, this might be one of these.

  • 3M: Extremely Well-Led Business Is Appealing If A Correction Takes It To General Market Multiples [View article]
I don't run a net 100% long exposure. So if I can find a quality company growing very steadily and at a quicker pace that the economy I am happy to pick up that name at multiples which are equivalent to the market, while having perhaps a partial short SP500 hedge against it.

    You are welcome.

Even if you are bearish on AMZN which I can completely understand, there is a very real possibility that the company is a very dominant player in whatever field a decade out orso.

There might be less risky, but still very much overvalued short candidates out there as an alternative.

They have close to 14k stores in the US, so that would be a store for every 20-25k people. So about 40-50 times a densely operated compared to China.

You are very welcome. The dividend of course remains very appealing with yields exceeding treasuries for starters.

  • Market Ignores AbbVie's Impressive Sales Due To Reliance On Humira [View article]
Well, Shire only generated adjusted earnings of $1.4 billion orso on a +$50bn deal tag.

That makes the deal dilutive for starters while the anticipated $1 accretion with 2.1bn shares calls for additional earnings of $2.1 billion on top of the dilution from acquiring a less profitable company.

Part of the expected accretion indeed is taxes, but most is from anticipated cost savings and the future pipeline development.
But I see your point. I find the assumption of $1 accretion very aggressive as well.

You are right, forgot about some of the litigation risks for a bit.
To me that is a sign of the fat margins they make, which will undoubtedly attract competition for payment solutions in some technology way or another going forwards.

They plan 1,500 stores in China by 2015.

With 1.3bn residents, that is one store per nearly a million people. Still room I believe.
