We provide a “user friendly” running commentary of our investment thinking, exactly what trades we are on, our highs and lows, our insights into what is driving markets and what markets are telling us. Ultimately, our end goal is for an individual investor who reads Glenorchy Capital’s site frequently to make much more informed, intelligent, unemotional and therefore, ultimately very successful investment decisions. Glenorchy Capital is aimed at those of you who want to take control of your own financial destiny and manage your own retirement savings in a low risk manner. In essence we walk the talk. We don’t have a model portfolio we have a real portfolio with real trades. We are actually managing our personal retirement funds and retirement funds of high net worth individuals in exactly the same manner (securities and the ratios invested) as we are talking about on the website. Furthermore, we also inform you of when and what we are going to trade rather than when we have traded. We don’t have opinions about what is going to happen in the market. We refrain from identifying with bulls or bears. This stops (albeit hinders) us from getting emotionally attached to the market and personal perspectives. Our philosophy is different than most, we consider ourselves above average because we realise we are average. We don’t consider ourselves smarter than markets, so we follow them. We don’t know what the future holds but we do know that financial markets move in trends, albeit the underlying themes move in observable trends. Riding these “themes” is the basis for our returns. And we see the world as one financial market broken down into sectors and regions. Our investment strategy is simple. We use a combination of both fundamental and technical analysis to spot opportunities in world currency, commodity, equity and fixed income markets. Our “fundamental” analysis is not typical in that all we do is try and determine the flow of capital in world financial markets. Capital flows are identified primarily by analysing the behaviour of world credit markets and the behaviour of the “risky” area of each asset class. We also use valuation models which have been developed over the last 10 years and are surprisingly simple to use and understand. We are also contrarians by nature and we try to invest at the point of maximum pessimism, sell at the height of optimism.
