  • Gold: Time To Short [View article]
It is very prudent to cover a large portion of the short position at these levels, if anyone is still holding.

I think picking short term targets now is rolling the dice. Longer term its going lower. I would wait for a base of some sort.

Yes, It's very possible that gold can rise given macro uncertainty. The problem is that the "safety thesis" isn't as compelling anymore, and talk of tapering QE dampens another reason for owning gold. Which is why we're seeing gold get hit on strong up days for equites (friday), but not rising on weak days, like today.

Why is this article back on the front page, does anyone know? The short position should be covered for now. Wait for the action to slow down then re evaluate opportunities.

For the 5th day in a row, gold has taken a hit on China market open. Chinese "demand" has very quickly turned into Chinese "supply".

Take a look at the run up to $1900, shorting there would have been extremely reckless. Anyone who put on an unhedged short position at $1900 won't be holding on to their gains for long.

A short term bounce, as we saw today, is warranted.

There is a high chance of being "fooled by randomness" if you base your thesis on a single event. No matter how confident you are with respect to that event.

  • A rash of negative commentary helped BlackBerry (RIMM -6.4%) close with big losses again; shares are now down 26% on the week. Evercore joined Credit Suisse in downgrading BlackBerry, citing steep unsubsidized pricing and limited initial availability for the Z10, and a lack of timing details about the QWERTY-featuring Q10. Canaccord and MKM are also downbeat on BB10's prospects, and shots have been fired at the Z10's low-light camera performance and (Bing-powered) mapping software. You're right, I would argue that reading anything you agree on beforehand just strengthens your confirmation bias. Thanks for reading and feel free to throw criticism my way, I'd appreciate it.

  • RIM: A Short Opportunity [View article]
$41 is a good target if you think BB10 takes off, in 3-4 months we should see some evidence of whether that is happening.

  • Could RIM See $20 On BlackBerry 10 Launch? [View article]
$17 is possible, but any higher you'd think BB10 needs to sell. Chances are quite low in my view:

  • What Brought BlackBerry To The Brink And Why None Of It Matters Anymore [View article]
BB10 looks to be an excellent OS. RIM is finally in the game technology wise, but it's too late. There is no real ecosystem around QNX, certainly not enough to rival that of Google, Apple or Microsoft. To gain market share, you must be if not outright better, then different from everything else. BB10 has several innovative features for hardcore business people, but that's about it.
