  • Set Yourself Up To Let Compounding Work Its Magic [View article]
Eh, Jon. I'm used to it. I think the first comment I ever got from Vasool called me a cheerleader without any talent. With a first impression like that, why on earth would I ever want to respond to anything he says?

I try my best to get along with people at SA and in real life, but it takes two to tango. I'm all for constructive criticism and lively debate, but when my only interactions with someone--again, be it here on SA or in real life--are negative, I stop engaging/responding.

Jon, you're right on. Buffett almost exclusively owns companies that ship cash to him. And you're dead on with compounding as well. Mr. Market can value an asset at $100 per share or $2 per share. No compounding has taken place, just the change in price that investors are willing to pay for an ownership stake. And I wished that people realized that tracking annual changes in price is a completely man-made measuring mechanism that does not create compounding.

  • What I Like About How Zuckerberg Runs Facebook [View article]
Bluesmoke, I'll never own Facebook in my life. It will most likely be a terrible long-term investment. That's why I tried to avoid saying anything to endorse investing in Facebook. All I said in this article is that I appreciate the fact that Zuckerberg is pro-active in protecting his moat. In the internet world, that doesn't count for much. I was absolutely not touting this as an investment.

  • Here We Go Again: Buy-And-Hold Investing Is Dead [View article]
$quid, I didn't realize a lot of other commentators wrote on that article. I hope I added something new to the conversation.

And don't worry, my writing frequency will be slowing significantly soon enough.

  • Be Careful With ConocoPhillips Earnings [View article]
If oil prices stay where they're at now or higher, Conoco ought to be making $1.50 per quarter. They'll be paying out $0.66 per quarter. Conoco management ideally wants to pay out 25% of earnings each quarter.

  • Are You A Buyer Or A Seller In This Market? [View article]
    Dave,

Isn't it something how much calmer these dividend growth threads are than the others?

It's a beautiful thing when you can leverage a weakness (falling markets and net worth) and turn it into a strength (reinvested dividends, growing income stream).

  • Dividend Investors Prefer Hatched Chickens [View article]
Vlad, we went through this two or three months ago. i.e. my advice is a disaster waiting to happen, anyone who defends me is a fanboy, i shouldn't be allowed to give anyone advice, etc.

We're at the same place we were a couple months ago.

  • 10 Quick Facts About The Upcoming Conoco Phillips Spin-Off [View article]
Not sure where you're getting the dividend cut to fifty cents.

Yesterday, Conoco just announced a dividend of $0.66 per share:

Phillips 66 is going to pay a $0.20 per share dividend.

In my book, Conoco looks very interesting from an income perspective.

Understandable. But then Jobs should be disqualified for his temperament, not the fact that he was a liberal arts dropout.
