  • What If Apple Weren't A Tech Stock? [View article]
Joe, you're right about the grammar correction. But the majority of Chuck's audience does not show up looking for Strunk & White tutorials. To the folks looking for common-sense financial wisdom and the necessary inspiration to hold through rocky times, Chuck does not disappoint.

    Loved the "No Surrender" reference.

You're definitely right about the MBA thing. I learned more working at a chicken joint for three months (how to prepare for peak customer periods, balance the books, do inventory, bring about customer satisfaction, etc.) than when I listen to MBA graduates give business lectures as part of an ongoing series at the university.

This whole debate about the Apple dividend seems needlessly forced (okay, "needlessly" might overstate the case, since I can understand why $100 billion in cash might cause some eyeballs to bug out).

But still, Apple hasn't been paying a dividend in recent memory, so shareholders should not have bought shares with the expectation of a dividend. The bottom line is that Apple is still compounding at gangbuster double digit growth rates, so why try to alter that? If earnings double and the stock price stagnates, then you can turn to the stock splits and dividends to try to open up the shares to more potential buyers to release pent-up demand--but when the Ferrari is purring like a kitten, there's no need to look under the hood to try and tweak things.

Great article, Rocco. You certainly bring a fresh perspective around here.

Rocco, Merry Christmas! Hope you've had a good break and a chance to listen to the Boss between the Holidays. I now have my 13th copy of "Born in the USA". For whatever reason, when people know I'm a Springsteen fan, they decide to get me something Springsteen-y for Christmas/Birthday/wha... and that Born in the USA album seems to be the default present. It's kind of like buying a Harry Potter book for someone who's a fan of the series, but oh well, I'll take the thought that counts.

  • How Apple Shareholders Can Do Well Without Steve Jobs [View article]
I like the Skype purchase, but I think Microsoft overpaid. Excessive cash on hand sometimes loosens a company's discipline to drive the hardest bargain possible (which would necessarily benefit shareholders more)--I have no qualms about Apple's spending as of now, but I think it's something investors should be vigilant in monitoring.
