  • Improving Gold Equity Outlook May Trigger Dividend Revaluations [View article]
Exactly right. The oil-gold relationship is a critical factor in gold producer margins. The ratio is once again becoming unfavorable to gold producers and will affect their capacity to improve free cash flow. However, it remains far better than it was prior to the credit crisis so margins can be sustained for now. See last chart on this page: www.minefund.com/commo...

That's no problem at all, Jim. Having the right data is the highest priority for me, and I appreciate that you would take the time to point out the error rather than dismiss it as just another eedjit's work.

Jim is correct - I missed Randgold's December 2010 announcement for a $0.20 div. payable in May 2011.

Thanks for picking that up, Jim. I'll make the necessary corrections.

Not necessarily. The specific reference is to the 1981 all-time high.

I've just returned from an extended stay in South Africa where we paid an average $5.40 per gallon for gas and $5.20/gal for milk!

Stocks are not benefitting from any flight to risk - correlate the QE money flow with the DJIA and S&P500 to see just how dependent general equities are on the largesse of the Fed and Washington.

Gold is NOT an investment, it's a monetary instrument; I subscribe to James Turk's definition here:

What did equities return from mid 1960s-1983...? 20 years of nothing. LIkewise, gold has smacked equities since 2000, so it's 31 out of the last ~50 years for gold.

The point is that it's not either or. Balance your portfolio and diversify the risk. Gold is a reciprocal wealth preserver, not a power play.

The juniors offer high returns and high risks. But you're not going to find more than 1% of them paying dividends any time soon.

Your opinion about the merits and demerits of the 25 March proceedings have no bearing on the accuracy of the LBMA analysts. Unless you are now prepared to say that the LBMA analysts conspired to set the prices to match their forecasts!

I'm not sure why you would wave away a group of analysts who have achieved this accuracy...
