Timothy D. Kailing is an investor and the principal at Elliptical Research. His financial interests range from the classic security analysis of Benjamin Graham to the contemporary work of Doyne Farmer and Andrew Lo.
Tim’s primary economic research involves stochastic dynamical modeling of market behavior. Most of this work is highly quantitative and not broadly accessible; but when results and perspectives are less abstract and potentially of general interest he enjoys sharing his work. In this way he does his small part to increase the collective intelligence of the markets — the genius of flexible financial markets — and incrementally facilitates the efficient distribution of capital.
Tim received his graduate degree from Princeton University, where his work was in computational biology and where he held a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. His interest in financial markets can be traced to a seminar on market prediction at Princeton given by Robert May (now Baron May of Oxford).
Tim wears another hat as an advocate for the intellectual benefits of early literacy in children; in this role he is the author of the book Native Reading: How to Teach Your Child to Read, Easily and Naturally, Before the Age of Three (http://www.nativereading.com). He is also a lecturer, software designer, and, when not busy with his two children, has been known to occasionally catch a trout.
