Sure Ashraf, but by ARM spending the effort to license and develop the core on Intel's advanced tech tells me there may be more to it. It could be a one-off, but this is not typical of how ARM has worked in the past.

Big news for ARM, and a big capitulation from Intel.

Great article Ashraf - a better to look at power in a digital system is:

    P = (Cg * n) * F * V^2

    where:
    - Cg = total gate capacitance (output C of previous gate + input C of current gate)
    - n = total number of gates in architecture
    - F = clock Frequency
    - V = Bias Voltage

So, the number of gates in the architecture and the gate capacitance of the core technology have as large of an impact at the Freq.

  • Apple Is Fundamentally A Value Buy Even With 50% Drop In Earnings [View article]
ValueTech - they are doing to very well in China (and will gain significant share in the coming year based on supplier builds and distributor forecasts) - I wrote an article on the new phones coming out for the China market (low cost and larger screen), and the deal with China Mobile back in mid-April.

You can see the numbers here:http://seekingalpha.co...

Value Tech - you're wrong again .. Apple is growing share in China and at very high incremental margin. Get your facts straight and read the 10Q's.

ValueTech - you just defined Amazon, except Apple actually has positive earnings and awesome Free Cash Flow (and is growing faster).

$AAPL & carriers are clearing out inventory to prep for the launch of iPhone 5S. AT&T offered me a free iPhone 5 w/ new 2 YR plan ($199 savings) for my 4S yesterday.

On the quote - I am not the only one saying that about the 2 5S versions this summer: here is another source:

shawndean - not citing rumors, this article is what I know, but obviously I don't disclose sources. I have worked in the computer/consumer electronics business for almost 19 years as a supplier to all of the bigs and have spent a tremendous amount of time in greater China (with almost all of the ODM / CM's).

Boy, is Dan Niles wrong on CNBC right now - he must have no connections at Apple or in the community. They are working on both a low cost phone and a larger screen ...

tradewiz - a lot of companies have had great products that never sell. Apple does have great products, and now they are opening up a new 700M unit market for those great products. This 100M unit incremental increase in iPhone sales to China will generate more EBIT in one year than companies like Amazon have made in its entire existence.

More great products will be coming after the 5S. The pipeline is very strong. But in the mean time, enjoy the 5S ramp if you are long.

musiccomposer - I can't believe that right now AMZN Enterprise value is 51% of Apple's. Think about that fact for a minute ...
    - Apple revenue is 3x bigger,
    - growth is higher (and has higher margin per $),
    - AAPL book value is 15.5x AMZN,
    - AAPL 2.6% dividend vs. AMZN 0%,
    - AAPL current ratio of 1.5 vs. AMZN 1.1,
    - $41.7B in earnings in CY12 for Apple vs. a loss for Amazon.
    - Apple Earnings are expected to be 61,000 times larger than AMZN in 2013.

But yet Apple trades at only 1.98x AMZN EV

    TimF,

That is why I believe they separated out Greater China - to highlight the incremental margin and growth vs. the rest of Asia-Pac. India, SE Asia and Korea have been a struggle, but China has more affluent people in it than the US. Once China Mobile is opened up, they will gain significant share.

MutualFund - The margins will beat expectations on the China growth - that was a key point of the article.
