  • Is A QE Exit Really Scary? [View article]
Probably one of the best reasons to listen to this author is the percentage of 'you are wrong' comments in this thread! The greater risk is not to economic growth and equity appreciation, but likely to bond principal. Everyone check your duration heading into 2014.

I am a fan of Abbvie and have wrote about them before Abbott completed the split, http://seekingalpha.co...
Its certain to be a competitive market, and probably money to be made in ABBV, VRTX and GILD.

  • Investors May Want To Fade Healthcare In May [View article]
Thanks for reading. When I wrote in September 2009 investors shouldn't be so quick to dismiss the positive impact reform would have on the group, it was a bit of a tough sell. http://seekingalpha.co...
But, healthcare should be one of the 4 horsemen in any growth portfolio, along with energy, technology and financials. That's how I position clients. However, seasonality does give you an edge for helping to determine over and underweights and timing additions and redemptions, which can be quite useful.

  • The U.S. intends to sell tilt-rotor V-22 Osprey airplanes to Israel for the first time as part of a $10B package of defense deals with the country, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. The Osprey, which takes off and lands like a helicopter, is made by Textron's (TXT) Bell Helicopter unit and Boeing (BA). [View news story]
This should be good news for Osprey rotarcraft supplier Hexcel (HXL).

  • Why You Should Cover Natural Gas [View article]
Thanks for reading. The EIA's projection forecast is for annual average prices and often is late to drop when prices fall, and rise when prices increase. It would seem we have a very good chance of exceeding the 4.05 EIA projection this year based on the fundamental data. We shall see!

    Jimmy,
More energy efficient homes being built are factored into the EIA's natural gas demand forecast, which I hyperlinked "projections". Total housing and building units will climb. The rate at which they consume energy shrinks, but each incremental home still adds demand, just less demand than say a 1940's poorly insulated colonial. Thanks for reading!

Mr Holzman is correct and so is the EIA. Square footage and economic growth are the primary drivers of natural gas demand. It is the increase in both that is driving the EIA's projection for higher demand and higher natural gas prices, both over the near term and the long term. I encourage all readers to read the source material I've linked in my article, especially the "projections" hyperlink. Mr. Holzman's link isto the data, which is incorporated into the EIA's projections. Thanks for reading!

  • Why You Should Cover Natural Gas [View article]
Thanks for reading. Demand is tied to square footage which increases alongside construction spending. Manufacturing growth and square footage growth are the biggest influencers on demand. Or said differently by the EIA: "Higher rates of economic growth lead to increased consumption of natural gas (primarily in response to higher levels of housing starts, commercial floorspace, and industrial output", http://1.usa.gov/13WmeaV

As Daniel points out, frac sand has remained the major driver of carloads in the crushed stone, gravel, sand category.

TakeFive, I agree with you, there is always something working even in a down tape. Spring isn't a great period (as noted in the next comment people tend to rein in risk ahead of summer doldrums); however certain baskets tend to remain strong. I don't think its a coincidence to see defensive baskets with strong seasonality.

Power generation is a margin thin regulated industry and as natural gas prices firm, production will revert back to coal. That's an interesting observation by DanielG above and it reinforces the EIA data cited in the article regarding switching back. We'll see if there are legs. But, bear in mind, come fall those year-over-year coal volume comparisons get very easy.

  • Real Estate Agents Flock To Zillow And Trulia [View article]
This is a very heavily shorted stock and I'd imagine most bears would argue "valuation trumps growth". I don't fall into this camp - yet - on Z, or for that matter TRLA. But, that's what makes a market!
