  • Betting Against Coal: A Green Lottery Ticket [View article]
To all you people who think Climate Change is not happening:

I'm not trying to convince any of you. I need someone to take the other side of the bet, and you're it.

I suggest you buy calls on Coal companies, or buy the stocks if you're more risk adverse. When you are proven right (as you know you will be), coal company stocks will skyrocket and you'll make a ton of money.

In other words, put you money where your mouth is.

Consol (CNX) is because they have operations in OH, VA, WV, KY, and PA
Peabody (BTU) is not, because they don't have operations in Appalachia.
    There are probably others.

    DaveMart-
Underground coal gasification is promising... but it's also unlikely to benefit conventional coal mining companies. In fact it might hurt them by introducing new completion.

  • Shorting the Least Green Companies [View article]
Speaking of antiscience religion, I seem to have offended one, judging by the last 7 comments, most of which seem to be reactions to the title, not the content of the article.

I do agree with the more rational commenters above that shorting a stock just because it is no "Green" makes no more sense than buying one just because it is "green." Investing needs to be much more focused than that to be successful.

Airline stocks, however, are probably doomed by peak oil, which is why I am currently shorting them.

What's greener than driving on asphalt? Carpooling on asphalt: it requires a lot less asphalt.
