I am a lawyer and assistant professor living in New York. My work focuses on the intersection of energy policy and the economic feasibility of energy pathways. From a financial perspective I cover a variety of energy companies ranging from renewable energy to fossil fuels. In addition to Seeking Alpha, my articles on renewable energy have been published by media sites including US News & World Report, Newsweek, The Huffington Post, and IFL Science. While I discuss legal issues relating to these companies on occasion, my articles do not provide legal advice and nothing that I write on Seeking Alpha should be considered as such.
BA in economics from UConn. MBA in finance from Wharton. Worked as securities analyst and portfolio manager for an insurance company and a bank from 1960 through 1983. Retired at age of 53. Private investor from then until now. I am 86 years young. I like to write poetry and short stories. And, I am the Chief Inspector of Sunrises and Sunsets on Earth (self appointed).
I primarily invest in a globally diversified set of low-cost index ETFs. That's my safe money, and is on virtual autopilot.
Because you can't, tax efficiently, own funds of MLPs and/or other publicly traded partnerships, I am forced to spend my time managing my own portfolio of MLPs, which I plan to use as a base layer of income during a future retirement. I don't trade the stocks nor intend to do voluntary selling in the decades ahead, so "measure twice, cut once." Hence my time on Seeking Alpha learning from others.
With a smaller slieve of my portfolio, I will invest in opportunistic individual stock positions. Most recently I've grown pretty interested in shipping stocks.

I am not a Wall Street professional. I am retired military and a recently retired state - certified general real estate appraiser. In more than forty years as a speculator I have purchased over 750 stocks. My specialty is smallcap and microcap stocks primarily in the natural resources sector.
I am very big on gold and silver penny stocks.
I am also very fond of royalty companies, master linited parnerships and REITS.
The only thing that I will not invest in is the S&P 500.The performance of the S&P is unacceptable. I don't do dinosaurs.
There is only one reason to hang out in the in the blood splatered arena of smallcap, microcap and penny stocks where I have been a player for more than forty years. There is no other investing arena that offers such spectacular returns.
I wrote a book about it. It is called "Forty Years A Speculator."
