The Unknown Professor (pseudonym) began blogging in 2004 as a "good way to keep track of all the random internet stuff" he comes across. His blog site, Financial Rounds (http://financialrounds.blogspot.com/), came together shortly there after; in a little more than 18 months, it has recorded 50,000 hits. This mystery blogger writes under the pseudonym "Unknown Professor" - name inspired by the late 70's comic known as the Unknown Comic - because he is as yet an untenured professor and would like to keep things anonymous until he is safely granted tenure. Unknown assures us he's a college-level econ professor who graduated from a fairly decent (though not top tier) Ph.D. program. While he's been known to blog about "whatever strikes his fancy," he consistently writes about financial topics which can be heavily researched and confirmed by statistical analysis, with a focus on topics of legal interest such as the options backdating scandals and insider trading. He is 48 and lives with the Unknown Wife, and the Unknown Son and Daughter. Visit his site: http://financialrounds.blogspot.com
I try to carefully trade weekly & monthly stock options with expertise in mining companies & traditional manufacturers. Speak & write fluent Portuguese and speak good Spanish. Resided twice in Brazil and once on Guam Island. Employed at the same large foreign-owned Distribution Center the past 15 years & completely 100% Pro-NAFTA. Smart individual investing is the preferred solution to improving one's economic future, as opposed to vast & vague government handouts. Seeking Alpha is the #1 best financial blog because of honest opinions & superb organization.
My day job is at an advanced natural language processing company. Investment is a new hobby for me. I have a strong belief that there is lot of free open web data available that can and should be leveraged in new and insightful ways to seek alpha. I hope to share my findings to more financially astute folks out here and in the process collaborate and learn.
Jonathan Liss is Seeking Alpha's ETF Product Strategist. Before moving over to the Sales Product team, he was Managing Editor for ETF & Portfolio Strategy content. He first joined Seeking Alpha's staff in May 2006, making him one of the company's longest serving employees.
He is interested in all things ETF, especially portfolio construction and asset allocation using exchange-traded products. His own portfolio construction strategy borrows heavily from Modern Portfolio Theory, though he's far from an Efficient Markets absolutist.
Jonathan graduated from Columbia University (class of '03), where he focused on U.S. history and writing. Out of college, he did a stint at a small Long Island-based advertising firm. Before joining Seeking Alpha, he worked at the Jerusalem Report magazine contributing to its business and arts sections. Jonathan currently resides in Jerusalem with his wife Simone, sons Erez and Uriel and daughter Zohara. In his free time, he's an avid tennis and fantasy football player as well as a die-hard fan of the NY Giants and improvisational live music acts like Phish, the Grateful Dead and the Allman Brothers Band.
