  • In addition to predicting new MacBooks will launch in June, KGI Securities thinks a $199-$249 iPad Mini will arrive later this year. If Apple's (AAPL)  track record is any guide, odds are it will discount the current Mini while launching a retina version. KGI's remarks come as Digitimes observes Acer/Asus are cutting prices for their 7" Android (GOOG) tablets well below $200; Reuters reported this month Google, which is expected to launch a next-gen Nexus 7 in July, is thinking of cutting prices as well. Amazon (AMZN), meanwhile, has suggested it won't lower the 7" Kindle Fire's price below a current $159. (Strategy Analytics data[View news story]

  • Tim Cook (AAPL) on the five-inch smartphone: "Our competitors have made some significant trade-offs in many of these areas in order to ship a larger display. We would not ship a larger display iPhone while these trade-offs exist." He adds that if IDC's right, the smartphone market declined 30% since December, so Apple's decline of 15% beat the market. [View news story]
The 30% decline smartphone sales since December could be a temporary decline. If there is a Y/Y decline this December, then I will be incredibly surprised.

It is an AT&T ad! They are touting it, because you can't do it on Verizon with Android phones or iPhones.

  • David Einhorn likes Apple's (AAPL) feisty share buyback : "We applaud Apple's decision to borrow money and return excess capital to shareholders, an idea that was off the table only months ago. This positive development represents a more shareholder friendly capital allocation policy and demonstrates the conviction of Apple's management and board in the Company's future." [View news story]
The iPrefs idea was a very bad idea. I'm sure somebody explained that to Einhorn and he realized that a buyback would be better.

Battery life is an important tradeoff. Bigger screens and more pixels require more power, so you get less screen time. Apple doesn't want people complaining about battery life, like they do for many other smartphone. I have a Motorola Droid 3 and the battery life is awful!!! I'd love a 5" screen, but not if I can only use it for 30 minutes before it needs to be charged.

If it drops to $390, buy fast, 'cause you're going to be competing with Mr Cook. for shares, and he has $58 Billion to spend.

I wish the stock would sell at $300 per share. Can you imagine if Apple's average buying price for their own shares was $300? They would eliminate approximately 20% of the shares.

How to $300? You must not have heard... there is big buyer and he has $58 Billion dollars to spend exclusively on Apple stock. His name is Tim Cook and his sidekick is named Peter!

$3 to buy $1 + 3$ more in earnings over the next 9 years and then you'd still have the option to sell what you have for $3. It sounds like $3 to buy $6 to me.

  • Heads: Apple Short Sellers Win, Tails: Apple Shareholders Lose [View article]
I disagree with you George. News of Dividend increase/share buyback/new products/product refreshes/earnings beat/etc. all could have a very positive effect on this stock. I don't understand why people are underestimating the importance of this quarterly report. The stock could easily swing $20-$30 in either direction depending on what Apple reports.
