  • Hold Apple?

Somebody told me that they bought Apple at an average price of $480 per share and asked whether or not I'd recommend holding. He has a portfolio with ETFs, a few individual stocks, and Apple shares represent about 11-12% of his initial investments.

I believe that even at $450 per share, Apple is significantly undervalued. I think that Apple can easily reach $500 before the end of the year. There is even a strong chance that it will be back to $475 by June, leading up to their developers' conference, but there are no guarantees in the stock market, and you should never invest any money in stocks that you aren't willing lose. Maybe Apple will never get to $480 ever again. I doubt it, but nobody ever knows what is going to happen in the future. Maybe Apple will trade between $400 and $450 for the next several years or maybe Apple it will drop to $350, which is unlikely, but there is always the risk of a stock to go down in price.

My recommendation would be to hold on to Apple. My current price target is $600. However, if you want to be cautious, hold it until the low $500s and then sell it. Or if you have no need to use the money for something soon, just forgot about it altogether and collect the dividends for years and years and ignore the daily stock price. Maybe the price will be at $1,000 in three years. Even if it isn't, you will likely have collected over $36 per share in dividends by then.

    Disclosure: I am long AAPL.
