China: Beginning of the End or End of the Beginning? [View article]
I always find it fascinating that commentators of all sorts pour vitriolic comments questioning statements from US and other government officials from all perspectives. At the same time many of these commentators will pour similar vitriolic comments on anyone questioning comments by Chinese officials or anyone who questions the Chinese growth story.
The difference is that since free speech is protected in the US and other countries, we can happily examine US officials’ view of reality. This is impossible in China, yet we choose to believe one over the other.
Mr. Hughes has provided us with a well research, well argued analysis of the present situation in China that questions some of these assumptions. It is perhaps a better course of action when investing money to consider different versions of the truth than to rely on faith alone.
