  • BlackBerry And Sandridge Doomed? Ask Prem Watsa And Sanjeev Parsad [View article]
    Hey Pundr,

If they have to sell, we won't be seeing a 3000 per acre. CHK sold at 2400 per acre on prime land, most of the land SD owns are undeveloped, so a price tag around 1200 for those or those might even have to be written off.

That's the ABSOLUTE worst case scenario.

Always got to be pessimistic, because uncertainty is investing's greatest enemy.

I like your thinking though. =]

The Mississippian Lime Play is worth 2400 acre, then SD shareholders will be screwed.

  • Stick A Fork In Nokia, Buy BlackBerry [View article]
BBRY as a turnaround is probably more likely than a buyout. If the Q10 continues to sell like crack, and if Thorsten's team can find a way to make the mobile management platform take off, then it's going to be quite the story.

Got it. Too bad, my stake won't make that big of a difference, but I will do my part.

    Thanks again Whopper.

  • American Greetings Waiting To Greet A Higher Bid [View article]
    Hey Whooper,

This is my 3rd time reading this article, but for some reason, I became more skeptical in investment ideas such as this one.

Look at AUTO, we had Chris take an activist position in there. I was long nearly 300,000 shares, but none of that mattered. Even though there were activists present, I think with the way the shares are structured, the family will end up stealing the company just like how the management at AUTO did.

I would love to hear your take! Thanks again!

  • Special Situation: CST Brands [View article]
    @jalichy

The CEO being a M&A specialist got my attention too. It doesn't make sense for the company's general counsel to become the new CEO. I think there's a good chance for an acquisition, but I'm going to be conservative on that assumption.

I think the company's fair price is around 37-40.

  • AIG - America's Comeback Story Is Just Getting Started [View article]
    Great article Tim!

Benmosche said that 25 billion of liabilities will be off of AIG's book, does that mean book value per share will increase to roughly 84 per share?

    Thanks!

  • CST Brands (CST -0.4%) - the spinoff of Valero's (VLO) convenience store business (for those in the Mid-Atlantic, think Wawa's superstores) - is again lower on its 2nd day of trading. Not a fan of the business model, Wilson Wang nevertheless says the low valuation has him interested. He's waiting first to see if institutional holders - Valero owners who have no interest in owning a retail operation - dump their stakes and create an even more enticing valuation (the Joel Greenblatt scenario). [View news story]
What do you mean? VLO dropped down to 36 ish, but CST is at 29.5.

  • Short Sellers Are Going After These 5 Names [View article]
    Bivus,

I completely agree with what you are saying. I think what I'm trying to say is that, there's actually more supply than people think. I think that a short squeeze is imminent, and it's going to hurt the shorts real bad.

Other than that, it makes sense and it doesn't at the same time. But hey, Jim Chanos has been doing this for a while, so who knows.

  • More from AIG's Q1 earnings: A slight miss on revenues ($8.56B vs. $8.64B expected) isn't damping AH enthusiasm with shares up 2.5%. Q1 after-tax operating income of $2B compares with prior-year $3B - which had included pretax income from investments (including Maiden Lane) disposed of in 2012. Insurance operating income of $3B is up 28% Y/Y. "Our priority this year is to improve operating fundamentals and reduce costs," says CEO Robert Benmosche. [View news story]

Yeah, but when I sell them. There needs to be a net buyer.

What happens to the shares I short? Someone needs to pick those up.

  • General Motor's Undervalued Warrant Makes A Sound Bet [View article]
    @dhpetrescu,

I did read the annual letter, and the Black Scholes Model only works for short term purposes. It is incredibly hard to figure out the pricing of long dated options.

I'm glad such an opportunity exist.

  • Short Sellers Are Going After These 5 Names [View article]
    Technically, it does.

For example, I short 100 shares of BBRY from "Moe Joe's" account, then Bill decides to buy 100 shares.

Effectively, Moe Joe still owns that 100, but Bill owns the same 100, which in essence double counts the shares.
