A few reporters weren’t laughing and discussed how the WWE may have opened themselves to a lawsuit for misleading shareholders. It also appeared that the uncertainty surrounding the McMahon issue precipitated a slight decline in the stock price.

Seeing that this company has been hitting 52-week highs, I took a further look to see if the momentum can continue.

The Brazilian Energy Market

While most countries are raising interest rates, Brazil’s central bank has been cutting rates in an attempt to help its economy grow. To supply the additional 3,000 megawatts of electricity per year to meet increasing energy needs, Brazil is executing plans to expand its power generating capacity. Just last year Brazil auctioned 157 projects for the building and expansion of its power plants.

Last week the Brazilian power company CEMIG (CIG) got some favorable press on CNBC in recognition of a stock split.

Hungry investors are anxiously cheering on their favorite U.S. food and beverage titans as they open shop in the lucrative mainland China market. The prize is the brand loyalty of over a billion Chinese eager to get a taste of American food. Two such companies with high hopes are Yum! Brands (YUM) and Starbucks (SBUX).

On my latest visit to China, I went on a mission to check up on the progress of these two companies in Beijing and Shanghai. My objective is to bring you a view from the trenches of how well these restaurants are performing on the front lines.

In the first quarter of 2007, the China Energy Council reported that China’s electricity consumption has jumped nearly 15% from a year ago. As China’s power consumption grows, the government has been pouring billions of dollars into infrastructure upgrades for the nation’s power grid.

ABB Growth in Power Grids

I believe the best play for power grid development in China and other emerging markets is ABB Ltd (ABB). This Swiss company nearly doubled its stock price since last year, and it may still have a long way to go. In 2006 the order backlog increased 41% and net income grew 75%.

Time to Say Goodbye to Fairpoint Communications?

Fairpoint Communications (FRP) is a rural local telecommunications company. Early this year, they agreed to purchase Verizon’s land line service area in rural New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine for $2.7 billion dollars. Considering that this huge deal would add an additional 1.48 million access lines to Fairpoint’s current 248,000, I decided to take a closer look at whether there could be some hidden value in this stock.

Strengths

Fairpoint holds a virtual monopoly in rural areas. It provides high speed DSL and only 13% of its customers have the option of cable internet service. Fairpoint has been gradually expanding through the acquisition of smaller companies. In February 2005, the company restructured its debt, improving its ability to pay interest.
