40 year veteran in agricultural marketing. My investment philosophy is biased towards value where free cash flow and its sustainability trump everything else. I favor dividend paying stocks with a history of stable and increasing dividends over time supported by sustainable payout ratios. Besides traditional equities, I also like Preferred stocks, Master Limited Partnerships, Business Development Companies, and certain Closed End Funds selling at discounts to NAV whose distributions reflect actual income rather than just return of capital.
I have been a dividend investor since my retirement in late 2003. I diversify by sector, domestic vs. international, and by cap size. I do not invest in stocks that don't pay dividends. I am risk averse and limit my investment in a single equity to 1% of my total assets or less. As a result of this 'rule', I have more than 100 equities in my portfolio.
Recently retired from hi-tech with a little luck held onto some cash after the 2000 melt-down, but since been kicked around by financial "advisors", "managers" and brokers.
Discovered Seeking Alpha and am awed by the expertise of contributers who have bootstrapped their knowledge and research.
