On the last page of their plan it mentions those as a 2013 project. I do not see any info from the company as to whether those are still in progress. In their financial projections they have construction and infrastructure revenue separate and in addition to the home building revenue.

Nathan, thanks. A couple of the companies in the portfolio did go bankrupt. However, some of the best performers were inches away from bankruptcy at the time - Select Comfort being one of them, trading at .25 a share, and going on to a > 6,000% return. Buying the whole basket of companies was the protection against some or many going bankrupt.

idx1, thanks, yes, the beta is high on the portfolio, high volatility. The brands would all be different companies if we went back to 2007 - as most were not below the $5 price point at that time. There are thousands of brand name equities, but few that hit the lows required for the investment.

Good catch. The correct symbol should be VDCMY on both. The shares are U.S. ADR's trading with a 1:1 ratio to the underlying shares on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. http://bit.ly/13YjCcB

Yes, it seems competitive pricing could speed up penetration rates in those nations. CapEx spending too, as the infrastructure gets better and reaches more rural areas. As we profile through the next 3-4 providers in the Mobile Investing In Africa series we'll try to point out in more detail the additional competition that MTN Group faces.

The up-and-coming sapphire laminates may have some aftermarket possibilities. Not as strong as a pure sapphire solution though. Neat video on sapphire and gt with smartphones here: http://bit.ly/Z4dszU
