    Maybe Sony's (SNE) Howard Stringer was serious when he talked of offering a "different kind of TV set." The WSJ reports Sony wants to launch an "Internet-based alternative to cable TV service," and has held talks with TV network owners. But unsurprisingly, network owners could be unwilling to play ball, out of a fear of upsetting cable operators. Google (GOOG) and Apple (AAPL) can probably sympathize (I, II).
