Sears (SHLD +0.7%) posts a list of 79 stores of the 100-120 that will be shuttered. Florida is hardest hit, with 11 Sears and Kmart outlets to be closed; Michigan, Georgia and Ohio have six scheduled closures each. Sears says it will post updates as they become available.

  • This is just the beginning of a full shut down. There is or soon will be an inventory liquidation company engaged to begin liquidating these stores and then later many others. Watch for the big sales in the near future.

  • Other than Georgia, this list is the who's who of horrible housing markets and rust belt economies that got nailed in the recession. I am sure it is difficult for any business to operate in these states. Especially if you are tied to housing and the consumer like Sears/Kmart are.

  • Micah,
I think we messed up on this one, I hope I'm wrong but Lampert will always be a moron.
I also think Bruce Berkowitz of the Fairholme Fund was just tagging along Lampert for his name, if you read or listen to his conference calls he never knew what Lampert was doing he would say, I think he is going to make it work.
The two Bozos ,,,oh lets not forget my buddy pal......Cramer.

  • At least we will get 1 share of Orchard for every 22 shares of $SHLD we had. That will be enough to pay a couple dollars towards our brokerage fees.

  • Georgia is actually on the who's who of horrible housing markets. No stores closed in AZ or NV and only 3 in CA (also members of wwohh). Florida is the 5th member.

Here's a link to a map of the closings:
