Android tablet makers aren't ceding the low-end market to the Kindle Fire (AMZN) and Nook Tablet (BKS) without a fight. Asus is rolling out a $250 7-inch model featuring an Nvidia (NVDA) Tegra 3 CPU, and ViewSonic says it will sell a 7-inch tablet with a less powerful chip for $170. Whether such products will be enough to counter Amazon's brand power, sales reach, and content/services bundling remains to be seen. (also)

  • You obviously do not understand what having the Tegra 3 processor at this price point means. Every tech saavy tablet geek is already drooling.

  • This announcement even surprised me and I stay abreast of the latest developments with smartphones and tablets in the industry. Pricing a quad core tablet with the latest Android OS (ICS) at $250 doesn't seem possible.

Looking at how kindle hit the market and cut into Apple iPad share, market demand should be even higher for this new Asus tablet.

Kindle and Nook both have inferior processors and are stripped of some tablet standards such as a camera compared to the iPad. Yet, the low pricing on the Kindle has been a big hit. Now Asus announces a tablet with the same form factor, within $50 of the Kindle (same price as the Nook), and sporting the newest processor that every techie wants to get their hands on.

In my opinion, the iPad killer is here. The Asus tablet at this price, with superior computing power, and the latest refined version of Android (finally) will take a huge chunk out of Apple in the upcoming year.

My only question is - Is Asus taking it in the shorts on their price point or did Nvidia give them a deal on the processor to get a huge jump on market penetration?
