Peabody Energy (NYSE:BTU) will cut ~450 mining jobs in Australia, CEO Charles Meintjes tells a trade publication, and Glencore Xstrata reportedly will lay off nearly 50 miners, as a global glut in coal supply pushes down prices. BTU says its cuts will take place across its operations in the coal-rich eastern Australian states of Queensland and New South Wales.
