More on Raymond James' upgrade of AppliedMicro (AMCC +13.5%): Like others on the Street, RJ's Hans Mosesmann is upbeat about the potential of AppliedMicro's ARM-based X-Gene server CPUs, which (along with rival products) are set to go into H-P's Moonshot servers. Mosesmann declares X-Gene to be "6-12 months ahead of 64-bit ARM competitors" (Marvell, AMD, Texas Instruments, etc.), and expects it to grab "the lion's share" of the ARM server CPU market for the next 2-3 years. FBR argued last month X-Gene, aimed at a budding microserver market, "represents the most complete vision of an ARM server SoC," and praised AppliedMicro's integration of an on-chip switch controller.
